There has been speculation on the board that the Jazz are just biding their time with signing a reserve big man because they already have Collins locked up. If that is the case, then I'm also wondering if they might be grooming him to be an assistant coach. He would seem like an ideal candidate and if signed this year, could work with Fess and Evans.

After seeing Evans briefly in summer league, it makes you wonder how good this kid could be, especially with some of the comments made by people here on the board who supposedly know him personally. Did he really make 10-10 in a 3-point drill? If he did, I doubt that was pure luck. Obviously, he needs to add weight, but with his length and ability to sky, if he is also a Memo-type shooter, then the Jazz have found a potential goldmine.

However, if he is such a great shooter, then why didn't his college coaches take advantage of this?

Yes this is Jazz news because according to David Locke we were talking to him. And Denver is upgrading the Front Court (Off the bench). They have added Al Harrington, Sheldon Williams (better than what they had last year), and now Mbenga. I am not saying this makes the Nuggets better than the Jazz but they have improved with talent. The Drama in Denver could make them worse though.

I wish the Jazz could of got Mbenga or Etan Thomas. I honestly don't like any of the other free agent Centers available now.

So who is this Shot Blocking Center that we are going to get KOC?

NBA All-Star Weekend is a time when the League clarifies the status of it’s players. With the Rookie/Sophomore Challenge, we identify the future stars. In the Three-Point Shootout we declare the best shooter in the game (at least for one night). And the main event of the weekend is suppose to gives us a clear picture of who the Top 24 players are in the world. However, every year there are deserving players who are unfairly left off the rosters due to the numbers game. Looking back at history, Mike Bibby in Sacramento was a player who comes to mind when thinking of these scenarios, while Byron Scott was another. With all that said, after being traded out of a bad situation in Minnesota, this will finally be the year that Al Jefferson takes his name off of this list.

Now that Jefferson is playing for a contender, people should respect his numbers a lot more. Before last season, he averaged greater than 21 points and 11 rebounds for two consecutive years, and double-double numbers like that are hard to overlook. However, All-Star voters have unfairly disregarded these stats due to his team’s horrible record. Thankfully, they won’t be able to use that excuse this year.

Big Al finally has a real point guard to feed him the ball in the post. And as we’ve seen through history, a good big man is nothing without a good guard to get him the rock. And Deron Williams is a major upgrade in that department. Also, Utah’s overall ball moment should assist the Jefferson in a big way, meaning the possibilities are endless.

If there’s one thing to be excited about, it’s the fact that Jerry Sloan and the Jazz know how to utilize their power forwards. From Hall of Famer Karl Malone to Carlos Boozer to even Paul Millsap off the bench, the Jazz always get great production from the four spot. With his wide frame, physical play and good foot work, he should fit in quite nicely with Williams in the pick-and-roll game. Without a doubt, Sloan’s system will take Big Al’s game to the next level. And next February, the premiere of a new big star will be the talk of the red carpet in Los Angeles.

One interesting point to note is that Deron no longer lives in Salt Lake in summer but will spend his summer in a non-NBA city - he currently owns no property in Dallas. (how does Locke know these things??).

It's good to know that the training camp is only 22 days away and we'll finally be able to have actual basketball discussions instead of all this non sense. 22 DAYS!!

This is meant semi-serious (not about bringing them back, but about whether they could compete at a minimal level). If we used them to round out our roster, does it give us any depth? Stockton's old, would get burned on the defensive end, would be pretty slow in transition, but could still hit an open shot, his free throws, and could distribute the ball -- three things our current backups cannot do. Malone would also be slow, get lost in transition, and get beat by quicker players, but he could pass, hit his free throws, and hit open shots.

Seriously, if these guys played 8-10 minutes each, would it really be that much worse than Gaines and Elson (this is not an attack on Jazz FO)?

Why Deron Williams Will Leave Utah For Dallas
By Andrew Macaluso

Deron Williams (photo. Christian Kozowyck)
There has been speculation from Jazz fans concerning whether or not Deron Williams wants to stay in Utah anymore. After losing teammates Carlos Boozer, Ronnie Brewer, Wes Matthews and Kyle Korver, is there any reason not to believe that Deron would want out? D-Will had an interview with David Locke (the new radio voice for the Jazz) a couple weeks ago, and he stated that he no longer lives in Salt Lake City during the summer months. Is this a sign?
I was in contact with Locke via Twitter about whether or not Deron’s heart is still with the Jazz after losing half of his team this offseason, and he stated that “Jazz fans are concerned about losing Deron, but what have the Jazz done that would make his heart be out of it? If it is, there’s nothing they can do about it.” I think losing four of the best players on his team would cause his heart to be out of it a little bit. Deron’s already stated that he’s frustrated with the way things are going in Utah, and this appears to only exacerbate his case.

In July of 2008, Williams signed a three-year extension (with a fourth-year option) for $70 million to stay with the Jazz and help bring them a title. Well, it’s been two years and there’s still no title. All the Jazz have to show for it is first round playoff exits and going over the luxury tax to bring back the same team back from ‘09, with half of them leaving during free agency this summer. It’s not that Williams couldn’t take the Jazz to a championship; it’s just his supporting cast seems to fall apart at all the wrong times.

If D-Will chooses to opt-out of his contract in 2012, where would he end up? How about following his roots in Dallas to play with the Mavericks. Deron starred at The Colony High School near Dallas, and last year at the NBA All-Star Game in Dallas, that was the happiest Williams has looked in two years. Another thing to consider is that the Mavericks will have substantial cap room in 2012, right when Deron can choose to become a free agent. If Deron ends up in Dallas, he would have a much better supporting cast than with the Jazz.

The Mavericks have one of the best shooting big men in the history of the NBA in Dirk Nowitzki. Don’t get it twisted though – he’s not a choke artist like fans believe. This is a guy who is 7-0 and has averaged 23.0 points and 8.5 rebounds for his career, all on jump shots. But let’s face it; Dirk’s never had a great point guard in his prime during his time in Dallas other than Steve Nash – and he still couldn’t lead the Mavericks to a title. Devin Harris never got the chance to prove, Jason Terry is a shooting guard and Jason Kidd is over the hill. If Dallas ends up with a Dirk and Deron combo, and that’s over 50 wins every season with just those two alone. Then you consider after the Mavs signed Deron they’d have at least $9 million to spend on another free agent in 2012 – Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and Antawn Jamison will all be available.

The best part of all is that Deron has the chance to play for the arguably the best owner in basketball, Mark Cuban. Cuban is the kind of guy that will gladly go into luxury tax in pursuit of a title, which he’s done numerous of times. Deron just wants to win, and at this point, he can’t win in Utah. Maybe Chris Bosh was right, it’s time players stop mixing loyalty when it comes to free agency.

wind 'em up....
