2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

I’m glad Kentucky got bounced in the first round because Sheppard’s hype was growing way too much. Zero shot he was going to make it to us. Looks more likelier at the moment.

What about now tho?
Love had a poor game today. I still think something is there. I never talked about him as a lottery pick. I think he has as good of a chance at sticking in the league as just about anyone that is discussed in the 2nd round this year or even late 1st round.

He's got substance to his game driving the ball, and he's got good feel, especially on the defensive end. He's another guy where you'd say, "If he can shoot from deep, he might have some All Star potential." There are several plays, even in these highlights, where he passes up open looks from 3 in order to drive the ball into traffic. That's the kind of stuff NBA coaches won't go for. He might translate to an impactful NBA player, but there's a development curve and some risk that, I think, would push him towards the later lottery. The NBA is just a different game, and he's not going to be able to bully and score over guys at the next level.

That said, he's got toughness, handle, some ability to create for himself in isolation, the ability to make the right pass, and the ability to finish at the rim if he's got space. He's not a nuclear athlete, but he's a good-enough athlete. I just think he's a bit of a reach if the Jazz are drafting top 8. It can't be overstated how important it is for a perimeter player to be able to shoot the ball and make the defense guard.

As a Sexton guy what do you see the upside I Sheppard being? I find it hard to believe those two could share the court together.

I get BPA, but if Sexton is a 30 MPG guy you are kind of capped out at 20 mpg for as long as you keep Sexton

Except there are guys in the NBA who bully and score over others, especially at the guard position where you can get mismatches.

Of course Castle has to develop some kind of respectable jumper. But I do think he's a true lead guard. He's really crafty and has great PNR feel.

As much as I love Sexton I don’t think he’s likely to be in our long-term plans unfortunately.

This is what Kris Dunn looked like at Providence before he was a #5 pick in 2016. Nice player. I think Castle will measure out 1-2 inches bigger, but their length and athleticism are probably similar. It just goes to show how important being able to shoot with volume and consistency are for a perimeter player.

Dunn's offensive issues go far beyond just shooting

Watching yesterday's games... Is Stephon Castle the best prospect in this draft? I think he's the best one I've seen. He seems to be really well rounded... and he makes so many smart winning plays. I see his 3p% is not great... but his shot doesn't look bad and his FT% is 76%...

Has the size. Has the athleticism. Seems to have good feel for the game, plays hard, plays winning basketball, has good handle, seems crafty with the ball in his hands, good finisher inside, good passer... ball dosesn't stick in his hands...

What am I missing and why is he not considered at least... top 3 pick?

I don't think there is a real consensus on anyone at this point other than Sarr and Risacher being top 3 for most
