The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

If we hadn’t done the Collins deal I think we could throw a bag at IHart and get him. I’d rather pay him 20M a year than paying John 26m a year. I am not 100% sure they wouldn’t try and retain him there but I think that’s high enough to give them pause.

There might be better options but I think if we are going to get FA it would be a player in that tier.

I think Donovan's future is in LA (Lakers or Clippers) or Miami.
Lakers, Nets, Heat... Clips don't have anything to offer.

Lakers can offer 3 picks, Reaves, Rui
Nets Johnson and Phoenix/Philly picks
Heat 2 picks, Herro, Jaquez is the tipping point there though. I also wonder if they would spin Jimmy off to a third team thinking he is washed and use some of the assets from that.

I think the Nets offer ends up being the best and he takes it to go home but I think the Lakers are in second.

Donny definitely lets them know he ain't signing an extension and tells them to move him this summer with a list. I can't imagine him and his team are thrilled about the NBA TV treatment and the coming 4 game sweep at the hands of the Celtics.

I would guess he gets to FA and signs. Think Cleveland is just going to hold on and hope they can win enough to convince him to stay.

That's a horrible plan and I hope they go through with it lol. It almost never happens and I expect him to be direct with Cleveland... I also expect him to be at least somewhat unpleased. They watched Lebron walk away... not sure they are up for that game of chicken.

IDK how much of a choice they have. If no one wants to trade for Donovan because they know he will take it to UFA and none of the big markets are giving you respectable offers, it might just be best to roll the dice and hope you win a ring. I do think Cleveland is good enough to do it if luck breaks their way.

I think you are underestimating Mitchell's desire to win over going home at this point. I don't think the knicks are a player for Mitchell with Brunson blowing up and Mitchell realizes that if the nets pay up the assets to get him then they won't be as good as the current cavs. Right now I would put the chance of him signing an extension with the cavs this summer at 75% and it could climb higher if Evan Mobley continues to have a strong playoff run. Mitchell is probably at or near his peak right now so it is important to have a few key pieces around him that he feels can take them to another level. That wasn't the case with jazz when you looked around and had a 35yr old Conley, 33yr old Bogey, 30yr old Gobert and 30yr old Clarkson. That core had clearly peaked the year before and there wasn't a good path to supplementing those older guys with younger players because we didn't have any in the pipeline.

If you put Mitchell on the market there would be a strong interest for him from teams like the Lakers, warriors, nets, magic and heat but I think the spurs would come with a really strong offer as well.

If Spurs/Magic trade for him knowing he's agreeing to an extension, sure, but those small market teams arent gambling on the whims of Mitchell.

Someone will pony up something good enough. Most of these teams don't have space... Brooklyn should. So need a trade anyway.

I'd say its a 5% chance he signs the extension. He can get bounced in the first or second round on a different team that is in a megamarket. Will allow him a bunch of additional attention and marketing opportunities. He has the personality for it and would crush it in LA or NY. The trade price now will be reduced so won't hamstring the acquirer. It will be enough that walking for nothing is a real threat of loss.

Only reason for him to sign the extension is if he gets hurt or has doubts about his knee. Why give up leverage/control?

Hartenstein is a physical monster who is taller and a few inches longer than Flip. The calling card is what he’s doing on defense and he does enough things on offense to not hurt you. Flip will be the mirror image of that if he makes it. He will hopefully be a better more diverse offensive player that does enough on defense to survive. We’ve heard the KO Flip comps and I’m just not sure if you are comparing Flip to KO that you should also be noting Hartenstein as a comp too. This is not a knock on Flip per se I just think that comp is completely silly.

Flip got dump tricked by a 5-8 engineering student rushing the floor. Hartenstein would eat that kid whole. Mentality wise I don’t think they are the same at all. (This is all sarcasm for the lols so don’t get butthurt).

Side note - I remember the first time I saw Hart at summer league I immediately thought all 9 players hated him on the floor. His teammates and opponents. He was out there to absolutely bang dudes and be annoying.
Reminds of the first time I saw gobert play in a jazz scrimmage. He was a total menace out there and pissing everyone off

Assuming massive development it's easy to see Keyonte following this same ego-driven path considering he's already committed the faux pas of voicing a desire to "build his brand"

Mitchell paired with Wemby would be massive fun for Spurs fans. Wemby is going to reel some Big Game into the boat.

IF he is actually good enough I am cool with it. Will need to work on that part first.

Main difference is that Keyonte George isnt a signature shoe athlete with a major company influencing him to a bigger market.

But yes, 90% of NBA players would rather be in LA/Miami/NYK than Utah. It's common sense.

It makes me personally ill but Donovan as a Laker would be a devastating marketing combo.

Keyonte this season is SOOOOO far from rookie Mitchell. If he ever becomes even close then it will be a great result for us. Mitchell becoming a legit top 15 player and a guy who can handle a scoring load semi efficiently at his size is a huge outlier. I don't think Key will ever get close.

I know you said 'assuming massive development' but even that feels like it is giving too much credit to Keyonte.
