    How Many Squares Are in this Picture

    I would like to see how many squares are in this picture. I'm not sure what the correct answer is but I would like to settle a Facebook debate on the matter. Yes, I am concerned about pointless things. So anyway, give it a whirl and post the number of squares you see. Thanks!

    I got 40 as well. Some people are insisting that there are 44 though.

    I'm sure I'd be able to convince them in person by showing them all 40 squares. I'm way to lazy to try and make a video to show them all.

    4x4 single squares = 16
    3x3 squares = 4
    4 square squares = 9
    Midde little squares = 2
    tiny middle squares = 8
    giant squares = 1

    40 total

    I thought that out but I still think showing would be more convincing.

    I get 40 as well... this is how I counted:

    small squares = 8
    regular "size 1" squares = 16 + 2
    size 2 squares = 9
    size 3 squares = 4
    size 4 squares = 1

    total = 8+18+9+4+1 = 40

If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say they are too small. There ought to be things that wed like to do but cannot do because our charitable expenditure excludes them." --C.S. Lewis
