Derrick Favors is a top 5 bigman defender in the league! He has really gained confidence in his defensive ability, and he has been controlling games on the defensive end the last two in particular.
At 21.3 mins./game, he has 2.3 blocks, .7 steals, and 7.7 rebounds. That works out to be 3.9, 1.2, and 12.6 /36. /48, he is top six on blocks (5.15), and on rebounds, top 7 (16.75). But he should actually be higher than this because some of the stats are skewed with lower-minute players. His speed and agility allow him to play superb P&R D. He needs to learn how to stay closer to stretch 4's, but other than that he is top-notch. He needs time, and his offense is getting better and better. He has shown a soft touch on quite a few of his misses lately.
Tremendous defender. Top 5. Very average offensive game, but showing signs. Superb garbage man on offense.
I really like to watch Favors play. Blocks have always been my favorite play in basketball and he brings that **** in spades.
Offensively, Favors is up to 14 pts/36 and 17.8/36 over the last 4 on 48% shooting.
And offensively, he's scored about 6 baskets all year creating his own offense. I love the guy. And his upside looks delicious. But until he can score on the block, he's a better version of Faried.
Because there are no other ways to score.
Playing well is priority #1 and nothing outside of that is really even close. If you're hoping someone else ****s up, then you don't deserve the break.

Disagree. Dude needs to continue to work on his J to keep defenders honest enough to attack the basket facing up. That's where his athleticism will serve him best.
Also, the 07/08 Jazz had the most efficient offense in the league with very little iso scoring in general, and virtually no iso scoring from the low block. Steve Nash led some pretty damn good offenses without any iso scorers as well. With the hand checking rules as they are, low post scoring isn't really all that effective relative to other options. The Jazz need a serviceable point guard- one who can run a half decent high screen-roll- in the worst way.

Well it is not as clear as it looks if we talking about Jazz bigs - Favors is great help defender but post defense can be better. Big AL is opposite, he is really good one on one defender in the post but absolutely useless as help defender or defending pick and roll. Kanter is kind of mystery to me still, sometimes he shows great individual defense and his pick and roll defense is very adequate as well but most of the time he gets completely lost on rotations and help defense. Millsap is just undersized to be good defender in the paint, he gambles and gets some steals but most of the times opposing bigs score on him easily. We play zone to little to rank them in that regard, but I would say Favors should be the best here as well.
So to sum it up here is how I would rank our defending bigs:
Individual post up defense: Big AL, Kanter, Favors, Millsap
Help defense: Favors, Millsap, tie for Kanter and big AL
Pick and roll defense: Favors, Kanter, Millsap, big AL
Zone defense: Favors, Millsap, big AL and Kanter tie.
So all in all yes, Favors looks like the best defending big on the Jazz.

Defensively I think he is one of the best, probably top 10.

If Ty gets fired, I believe we will look back at his playing Al's offense over Favors' defines as the defensing moment in the decision.
