Top teams to offer Millsap a large contract.

We could still offer him a contract and we probably will if the top two don't get him. He would probably start for both teams. Here is a list of the top teams that could make a run for Millsap and possibly Al. The number is what they owe next year, and then I include a list of current bigs on their team.

    1. Houston $40 Patrick Patterson, Marcus Morris, Omer Asik
    Needs: PF
    Likely: Millsap

    2. Detroit $42 Greg Monroe, Charlie Villanueva, Andre Drummond, Jonas Jerebko, Kyle Singler
    Needs: PF
    Likely: Paul Millsap

THESE THREE ARE MAINLY FOR BIG AL
    Atlanta $18 Al Horford
    Needs: PF or C
Likely: Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap

    Dallas $45 Dirk Nowitzki
    Needs: C
    Likely: Al Jefferson

Cleveland $28 Anderson Verajao, Tristan Thompson, Tyler Zeller, Jon Leuer
    Needs: C
    Likely: Al Jefferson

    OTHERS
Portland $60 LaMarcus Aldridge, Myers Leonard
    Needs: C or PF
    Likely: 0 (salaries)

Indiana $49 Roy Hibbert, Ian Mahinmi, Tyler Hansbrough
    Needs: PF
    Likely: David West

Philadelphia $47 Spencer Hawes, Kwame Brown, Lavoy Allen
    Needs: C, PF
    Likely: Andrew Bynum

Charlotte $40 Tyrus Thomas, BJ Mullens, Brendan Haywood, Bismack Biyombo
    Needs: PF or C
Likely: 0 (Jordan won’t take mediocre players; he’d rather trust the draft)

Toronto $47 Jonas Valanciunas, Andrea Bargnani, Aaron Gray, Amir Johnson, Ed Davis
    Needs: 0
    Likely: 0

Phoenix $51 Marcin Gortat, Luis Scola, Channing Frye, Markief Morris
    Needs: 0
    Likely: 0

I hope we can figure out how to move one or both for assets. I don't think we can afford either of them if we hope to retain favors, kanter and Hayward and build a solid core around them.

There was a good Hollinger article that pointed out an inordinate number of teams will have cap space this offseason. Both Al and Sap should have suitors. With Favors and Kanter behind them, they're not likely to want to resign. For this reason, I suspect they will both be heavily shopped. Letting them expire is fine, too. S&T's aren't unrealistic, and if we're a playoff team then I suspect we would use that as leverage in deals. But I don't expect either will be back.

No way Dallas is interested in Jefferson! They're too smart, and besides you can't have 2 really soft front court players starting on your team (Dirk/Jefferson).

I could see Portland making a run for big Al, maybe even Atlanta.

If Houston wanted millsap their best interest would be a SnT. They are loaded with tweeners like millsap. The would probably shop on to us for millsap.

Dallas offered the next best package of crap to Minnesota for Jefferson behind the Jazz's.

I don't see Houston offering Millsap a contract with how much money they have tied into Lin, Asik, and Harden. Not to mention they also have a lot of young, promising PF's they want to develop.

This is what we were hoping the Jazz FO was saying.

The hard part about trading them is we can't take a long term contract back. So really we are just trying to get some draft picks.

Houston makes the most sense for Jefferson. He has a pre-existing relationship with McHale, and Houston's existing PF bigs are all undersized like Millsap (e.g., White, Morris, Patterson, etc.). Since Asik is not a traditional low post player and more of a defensive and active around the basket offensive player, Jefferson could play well as the PF along side him.

So we should just trade Al to Houston now.
