I find it crazy that a Canadian province can easily separate, yet you freedom-loving Americans went through a brutal, 4-year war in order to prevent some of your states leaving.

Well, one of the prerequisites for separation here in Canada is actually wanting to separate. Quite a reasonable one, I find.
Are you talking mutual separation or not? 'Cause I imagine the reference you gave had one side clearly wanting to separate.
I'm talking about the fact that there are currently no defined mechanisms allowing a state to separate, whereas in Canada, we have them. I find this shocking as our provinces generally have fewer powers than states.
I signed one for each state.
