Guys came off the baseline screens a little better last night. Although my read on guys being "open" on the perimeter was that Doc scouted us, saw nobody could hit an outside shot, and was clogging the hell out of the paint. And once those first flex cuts don't work, we have no idea how we're going to use the second half of the shot clock. There's 2 huge things I just don't understand why we don't see:

1. When we drop the ball into the block, have fun and freeze the frame. 80% of the time, the other 4 guys are on the other half of the floor bunched together, and nobody is moving.

2. Nobody ever cuts to the hoop on this team without the ball (except Sap). Al and Sap have more interior passes to one another than they do to the rest of the team combined.

Wading through the sarcasm and quasi-phantasmic signification, I believe I can see your point. I big part of the offensive execution breaks down with Tinsley and Foye in the second unit and Foye in general. Throw in Mo's propensity to be a shooting PG and you have most of our major holes. I never thought that I would consider Jose Calderon, but after watching him against us, I could only imagine how he would work with Favors. The high pick and roll for us is simply to allow the guard to roll apparently. They never make the pass to the roll guy even though we run the play non stop.

Didnt Mo have basically the same stats as Calderon that game? Not saying Mo didnt dick everything up last night though.

Corbin did no coaching with Jason Terry. It was Hayward's great D; it was only by chance he started at the SG. What Corbin didn't do is exploit the mismatch on the offensive end just like Rivers did with Barbosa and Green with Tinsley and Foye. Do you really think Corbin had anything to do with Rondo's points??

Exploiting Barbosa is in no way comparable with exploiting Tinsley. And again, the Jazz did a good job of stopping Rondo, Terry, Garnett, and Pierce. They made Celtics beat them with their lesser players, and that was a very good strategy IMO.

The fact that Popovich has three great All Stars does not diminish his coaching prowess, and the same goes for Sloan. Corbin is not even on the same planet with these two coaches yet.

Well, not the same play at this point since the first his a high pick and roll, but the second one is Mo iso. What's more, the Spurs need three points at the end of the game, so their spacing will reflect their desire to defend the three (yet they get a wide-open shot). The second is iso at the end of the half with Al still down low. Thus, their spacing reflects this. I don't think skill has anything to do with the spacing of these plays.

You're really grasping at straws to prove a point. Those are identical setups but were executed differently. Is that on Mo's (in)ability to read the defense or bad decision making, is it personnel issues, or is it all on Corbin as many posters are pretending? When the Jazz are running the exact same sets with inferior results we should be asking why first and placing blame next. Putting a whole lot of it on the inferior players is the simplest way to explain it, especially when a Sloan type offense relies on dominant point guard play. See below for Corbin criticism--

This play drives me bat **** crazy & I've been vocal about it going back to the San Antonio series. Al Jefferson is not efficient enough in the low post to run this play from the 1. Why the hell aren't they running motion to send the ball in from the 2 or 5 so they're already moving & opening options? This play only works with extremely good post play, and even then shouldn't be used as the primary option. Sloan didn't nearly as much as we act like he did. Instead, Malone came baseline across a screen a lot for entry pass position and was a PnR threat as well. Going one to five with the point guard running through leaves no other options other than a very quick catch 'n' jack 3, and the Jazz are fresh out of Hornacek right now. STOP RUNNING THIS STUPID ****ING PLAY WITH MORE THAN 8 SECONDS ON THE SHOT CLOCK! (wait, that's what Corbin has said he's trying to do)

This post should be tagged for reference to why Al Jefferson is seen as a black hole who can't assist. It is pretty damn hard for anyone to assist out of this setup. It's way too easy to double & triple team while covering four players with the remaining 2-3. The reason it worked with Malone was because he could get to the line, was a quicker post scorer, way more versatile shooter, and could step out for PnR. It's flat out a ****ty play without a top 30 all time talent. Corbin, please give us some bleeping ball reversal before the entry pass! Isn't Millsap capable of running high low with Jefferson?

My major grip with Corbin is that our best player continues to get less than 30 minutes every game unless it's a triple OT. He has not gotten a single game over 30 minutes unless it was an OT game.

This is unacceptable. He's the only player on the team with a shot at being a super star. He's already the best player on the team. And he needs minutes against starters to improve even more. Yet he continues to get games with less than 30 minutes and even some under 20. That is unacceptable.

I would drop dead from shock if I heard Corbin say anything this detailed and logical! The girl from Jazzfanatical highlights the phrases "keep working" and "get better" every time he gives a statement or answers any question. It's alarming how often he uses these phrases and his young players seem to follow suit.

"Coach, how is this team going to get better on the road?" "Well, we just gotta keep working and getting better from game to game."
"Favors, what do you have to do specifically to improve your post play?" "Well, I have to keep working on it and just get better from game to game."
"Burks, what one thing do you have to do to get more minutes on the court?" "Well, I have to keep working on my game, and just, ya know, get better."

I see the FO's job as getting as many awesome players as possible. Just think of the Dream Team; did anyone say, "they have too much talent; it's a major problem". If Burks or Kanter can't beat out players to get time, then they shouldn't get any. They have practices and limited minutes to show what they can do. Also, injuries are going to happen. Why not have talent waiting to come in? If Jefferson suddenly had a hamstring injury, Kanter's minutes would go way up. Then he should show what he can do. If he looks like a young puppy, that's about to wet itself, then you probably shouldn't give him big minutes. I can see the argument and we need to develop players, but if there's not a good trade or opportunity, then they should hold tight. I'm not interested in becoming the next Washington, Sacramento, Charlotte, Detroit etc. As long as Corbin rewards the young players who contribute to our wins (Hayward, Favors) and Corbin has the balls to sit players that are not executing his game plan and playing hard, I'm fine with the FO.

IMO if Burks could reliably execute and hit shots coming off curls he'd be on the court a lot more. It's not helping him either that Foye has been an absolute killer shooting the ball, sometimes blowing games open singlehandedly. Also if Alec had a much better handle & vision he'd have the backup point minutes.

I don't know how replacing Raja and Howard with Foye and Williams is an indication of a FO who doesn't know what they are doing. If Ronnie Price and Korver had a baby, it'd be Foye. If Bryon Russel and Gumby had a baby it'd be Marvin. Yay babies.
