    Gary Payton Respects John Stockton

    http://www.foxsportsflorida.com/11/1...7&feedID=10140

Payton says that, if inducted to the Hall of Fame, he would choose John Stockton and George Gervin as presenters.

There is a youtube video where Payton just goes off about Stockton. In a good way. Toughest to play against, toughest PG, smartest player...something like that.

I heard his son plays ball at Salt Lake Community College. I'm not sure how true that is, just something I heard.

3 Finals appearances with 3 teams. 1 title in limited role. One of the best defensive players in history. One of the best trash talkers in history. He should be first ballot, but I also thought Reggie Miller should be first ballot.

Gary Payton was one of my favorite non-Jazz players to watch. The Jazz/Sonics battles in the mid-90's were fantastic. Payton once said that the only player he wouldn't trash talk was Stockton, simply because he had too much respect for him.

I love in that video how Payton describes Stockton's hard picks, "He'd set you up 'bleep', set you up like this 'bleep".
    Haha awesome.

I love how now theses guys give him respect now. Back then John had a hard time getting any respect from his peers.

Your memory is failing you, or you're too young.

Payton and others always respected Stock. They hated playing him, and would always try to step it up against him.

Announcers and Media... don't know about that... but the players respected him.

John Stockton made me fall in love with basketball, nice to see him getting pats on the back from his rivals. Gary Payton was a fierce competitor.

Eh. Maybe you are right. I just thought I remembered people down playing John's abilities, saying he was a product of Karl Malone. I specifically remember Mark Jackson saying he wasnt that good. Maybe it was a only a couple people. I was young back then when I watched him, so I may be over exaggerating it a little.
