There is a book called "Rare Earth: Why Complex Life is Uncommon in the Universe" that says that the idea of earth being the only planet habitable in the entire universe isn't very far fetched. I am not saying I am agreeing with it (there are about 10^23 stars) but I am open to either possibility.
Also in 2010 an article was published in Nature (which is the most prestigious scientific journal) called "A formal test of the theory of universal common ancestry" by Douglas L. Theobald. It came to the following conclusion "These results provide powerful statistical evidence corroborating the monophyly of all known life."
So we have this very rare planet that a very very rare event happened. And this event only happened once in Billions of Billions of years. That is life.

Honestly, there's a better chance of Alien existence then not with the vastness of space, and what we haven't explored. I won't refute you on UFO's, but to say with out a shade of doubt there are no such things as Aliens is short sided.
Also not all "aliens" have to be intelligent. I would not be surprised that their are worlds out there that are like earth but with no human level or above intelligence. Nothing but wild animals running, swimming and flying around.
Understanding how little we know about the physical aspects of dimensions as opposed to how they mathmatically work make the possibility of exterestrial visits that much more real if and when we figure all them out.

You are not, regardless of how you see yourself.
Does other life exist? I find it likely. We are even finding some organic-like compounds on Mars.
Is any of it intelligent? Maybe. There is nothing about evolution that favors intelligence, specifically.
Has any of it the technology and resources necessary for an expedition to our planet? I find that difficult to believe.
I would not be surprised if there are planets with that level of tech. What I doubt is that they would waste time with Earth. I believe there are hundreds of thousands of worlds out there with life. I doubt there is anything about Earth that makes us stand out and call the attention of "aliens". Perhaps they know we are here but I doubt it.
I don't see what is so hard to believe about intelligent life out there.
The universe is huge. There are planets out there that are billions of years older than earth. There could be species out there far more advanced than us.
There could be species out there that are nothing at all like us. There might be intelligent life that isn't even carbon based, isn't water based, and thrives in temperatures that would kill us. They could be living wisps of gas for all we know.
Just because life on earth evolved around the materials abundant on earth doesn't mean it's the only possible way life could ever evolve.
We don't know anything about what makes something come alive. All we know is that whatever makes it happen, it happened here with the materials available on this planet.
