ESPN is reporting the Boise State will stay in the Mountain West. I'm just wondering what the resident BYU fans think of that move. Would you prefer to be in a conference with regional rivals such as Boise and Utah State over independence? Not to mention the fact that BCS access is getting a littler easier for non-BCS conferences. It's being reported that Boise is getting their own special TV deal for their home games. Hard to think BYU couldn't get the same deal from the MWC.

As an Aggie fan there was a time when I really cared about playing BYU. Even to the point of 2 for 1's. But those days are gone. If BYU can schedule a 1 for 1 with Middle Tennessee State they can schedule a 1 for 1 with USU. If not, then I really don't care if we play again or not. Go ahead and drop USU off your schedule and pick up another Idaho State University, NMSU, or Montana State game.

BYU has already made it clear that they want "exposure."
They don't care about conference championships, schedules, etc.
Besides, the money they're making as an independent cha ching is more than they'd make in the MWC.
If I were the AD or President, the choice would be Big 12 or bust.

But the game has changed now. If Boise State has indeed struck a deal with the MWC that allows them to retain home game broadcast rights, I would assume BYU could too. BYU already gets paid by ESPN for their 6 home games, it sounds like they would be able to keep that deal (or something very similar) in place if they joined the MWC.
As far as exposure, you'd get your yearly game against Boise and could continue scheduling strong out of conference games. It's also a clearer path to a BCS bowl which would obviously help with exposure.
The old MWC TV deal is a thing of the past, and if the Boise deal is any indication, BYU probably wouldn't lose much money, if any at all by rejoining the MWC.
If the money stayed close to the same, I think BYU would be foolish not to do it. Odds are, the Big 12 isn't calling, they'd have a clearer path to the BCS in the conference, scheduling would become a ton easier, and with the MWC doormats in place, BYU could still got out and schedule 3 really good out of conference games to help with continued exposure.

1. With the new system getting into a conference makes a whole lot of sense.
2. I thought I read/heard somewhere (probably 1320) that BYU would still make less money going into the MWC. Do you have a link for what they'd make (or an estimate) if they rejoined the MWC?
3. Pride... BYU isn't exactly known for humility. Would they really go back to the MWC? Should they? I know that the landscape has changed in college sports and so turning tail and going back to the MWC isn't necessarily an admittance in the failure of independence. However, a lot of people will look at it that way.

You're missing something here, the money for the boise football package is retained by the conference and distributed evenly among all teams. There are bonuses for national tv appearances but other than that they are on equal footing with the rest of the conference. If byu's goal is maximum exposure, retaining rights to games not picked up and putting them on byutv, then they can accomplish that, but they won't be able to retain all the money. Boise tried and failed to get that deal from both the big East and MWC.
