generate heisman buzz at the time?
Day 2 tells me the 'he got duped' side is gaining traction. It's too crazy still though. I'm going to stop reading about it until somebody grills that kid in California.

Yesterday I was believing he and his family were all liars.
Today, I listened to Alema T'eo on 1280 the Zone and he detailed how it was eloborate hoax.
That the guy who played the role of Koa might have set the entire thing in an attempt to solicit funds for cancer patients. Apparantley there were atleast 4 characters, Lennay, a 9-year cousin of Lennay, Koa (Lennay's Brother), and another woman who pretended to be a college student with Leukimia. I believe he said that members of the T'eo family had met these people.
So is the entire T'eo family in on the scheme, or is the T'eo family all been duped?
Either way the kid is never going to hide from this.

I hadn't seen this link posted in here.

This talks about how Notre Dame officials wanted to come out with this story before Deadspin put it out, but Te'o and his representatives hadn't gotten around to it yet.

Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the man who has been publicly identified as being behind the Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax, called a church friend in early December crying and admitted to duping the Heisman finalist, the friend told "Outside the Lines" Thursday.
The friend, a woman in her mid-20s, agreed to be interviewed under the condition that she not be identified, saying she was fearful for her family's safety because of the overwhelming publicity the story has generated. In the interview, she did allow for her voice to be recorded.
She said Tuiasosopo gave her the tearful confession and account of how he played what he said was at first a game on the unsuspecting Te'o. And, she said, he told her that it wasn't the first time he had done it.
"He (Ronaiah) told me that Manti was not involved at all, he was a victim. ... The girlfriend was a lie, the accident was a lie, the leukemia was a lie," said the woman. "He was crying, he was literally crying, he's like 'I know, I know what I have to do.'
"It's not only Manti, but he was telling me that it's a lot of other people they had done this to."
...
So..
At best, Manti was scared to tell the truth to the media and lied about and exaggerated the whole thing for weeks/months.
At worse, he was a co-conspirator eager for attention.
Either way, he's the complete opposite of what you want out of a Middle-Linebacker. You can't be a dumbass or a gutless liar or a pathetic attention starved drama queen to play that position. Thankfully, I think a real team, Bama, showed Manti's limitations so no one will draft that fool's gold in the 1st round.
Now his teammates are even trashing him. Which is real bad. MB and QB must be the most respected positions on the field.
Van Noy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Manti Te'o.
It's just a shame that he didn't declare for the draft this year.
Corbin sucks.
After hearing all the details now. I'm fully convinced he was a victim of a hoax. Its very sad. I believe his story. He is just young and very dumb. I think all my questions have been cleared up with rational explanations. I have no belief he was in on it. Poor guy. He'll be a punch line for a long time.
Its one thing to have this happen to you without the pub, and quite another for it to be a national story.
I could imagine a fairly decent Mormon boy on a Catholic team wanting to use a fictitious "girlfriend" to excuse himself from some of the locker room chitchat and maybe the party-time activities, or even to steer the chicks away.
I can also imagine some very gay but closet cases LDS boys. . . . .
And some dads trying to project some kind of normality to idle questioners from the media. . .
some guy on a program called redeye radio was talking about this all night when I was driving. . . .
But hey, when it comes to women smarts, Manti makes me look bad. Whatever he did, he's got no child support, no paternity lawsuits, no alimony to pay, and no bitter women telling his own brothers and sisters lies about him. Life stretches out before him unblemished, and ambitious women, and even stupid women, are going to just pass on creating some new wrinkle on ruin in his life.
