    Why no #TradePaulMillsap thread?

    http://jazzfanz.com/showthread.php?1...fferson-please

The guy who went up against him the most, who wanted his starting job, the guy with the chip on his shoulder got burned by BOOZER last night...
I'm not blaming Paul for the 3 because it was a broken play but his defense is not good, Gibson blew by him a few times too last night.

An honest question (Al vs Paul):

If Al Jefferson was our 2nd round pick, instead of acquiring him for Koufos, '10 #23 (Trevor Booker), & '12 #18 (Terrance Jones) or if he was making $8.3M this year (vs $15M), would we be killing him as much as most fans are?

From what I read, watch, & hear, Al has been an awesome teammate & great player. He helped crack Enes' shell open. He has worked with our young bigs with their limited offensive game. He's gotten in better shape each & every year he's been here. He's shown more passion on the court on the defensive end. He understands that the team's offensive flows much better with ball-movement. He's been our most consistent player throughout his tenure. He's doesn't have any off-the-court issues. So why do we HATE him?

Byron Russell was my favorite player during our runs because he was that 2nd round pick who did the small things. Matthews was also a favorite too because of the same reasons, as well as Millsap...

Paul epitomizes what Coach Sloan preached. He was the grit & energy of this team, especially when he was coming off the bench. Now I don't want to trade him just to trade him but I just don't see us going deep with him as a starter. I would love to keep Paul around but as our 3rd big. I watch some of Denver's game & I miss seeing jumping up fighting for boards like Faried. That said, I just don't see him willingly take that role I envision for him (3rd big). I'm probably 100% wrong, as the sabermetrics say he's great & well above average.

I just don't see this team winning this year. I feel this team will be very good in a year (West 5-7th) & hopefully fearful (West Top 4) in 2-3 years. So I ask myself, who will be more valuable to this team in those years & I ultimately think of Jefferson.

Why is this board so biased & pro-Millsap but kill Jefferson?? Nobody kills him when he dribbles up the court & tries to take it one-on-one off the dribble, in the beginning of the shot-clock but we kill Al for keeping the ball for 4 seconds, as nobody else cuts or moves. How many times does Al get the ball with 3 seconds on the s/c & have to bail the offense out (albeit miss)? I like Paul but not as my starting PF.

I don't disagree with what you've said here but if we keep Al, he's starting and we're not making a deep playoff run with him starting.

I agree 100 percent. Al is a GREAT piece for our team, Paul is a GOOD piece.

Kanter had an amazing game on Wednesday and is making great improvement but is not ready to fill Al's shoes quite yet, I'm confident that Kanter won't put up those numbers on a regular basis for at least another year, we still NEED Big Al down low, like it or not.

Favors is completely capable of filling Milsaps roll though, RIGHT NOW. And he will not just fill that slot but will consistently put up better numbers that Milsap has this season.

Al is a key piece as to why our front court is such a threat in the NBA and to trade him right now would be ridiculous.

Milsap needs to go and I wouldn't mind seeing Burks go with him to land a solid young PG for us, Burks right now is a complete non factor for the Jazz and isn't showing much improvement. If another team wants to trade a piece for him that we desperately need (Young PG) then get him a plane ticket asap!!

    The same with Millsap.

We would have to overpay both and both would want to start. Which of this two players would you rather want to keep?

I'd say trade them both. They are not worth the money they demand.

I'd keep Millsap for 3 years (26-30 Millions) or Jefferson for 3 years (30-36 Millions). No doubt that they will get bigger contracts. Jefferson will get like 14-15 Millions/year and Millsap 11-12 Millions/year.

Add a passing first young point guard and a veteran big and wing for cheap. Get rid of Millsap and Jefferson.

Who said he was untouchable. As it pertains to Al vs. Paul, Al is a loser and has been a blockade to any real meaningful progress since the day he came here.

Correct but one would likely cost more than the other and never come off the bench.

I find it interesting that when we talk about trading Al, everyone makes it sound like he has no value and we should only get a bag of chips. Yet, in almost the same breath, these people will say Al will command 15 mil a year and a starting posistion. WTF

Trade Al and Paul. We have two guys who were number 3 overall picks that will be better anyways, and thats where our money should be going. Get something for Al and Paul to help fill the holes somehow. This isn't rocket science. We don't want all our value piled into four bigs. Just go and get a couple back ups for Enes and Derrick. This is do stupid to think we should be holding on to either one of them. Its either that or trade one of young guys. What the hell is the point to having Enes buried on the bench forever? Thats a 3 pick. Its a waste to not get a starter out of it.

Paul Milsap is far more compatible playing along side Favors and Enes. Trade La Sefferjon.

They fell in love with the grit and the man who backed up Boozer. They refuse to see that he is no longer that player anymore.

Even though by all the metrics you've ever fallen in love with and used in arguments on this board (ORtg - DRtg in particular), he's better than Jefferson (and Boozer...).

Commenting on why the hate, not ability.

If Paul is never going to be okay with coming off the bench once Favors and Kanter are the clear starters then I'm completely on board with trading or not resigning him. On the other hand, if he is willing to embrace the 6th man role then I would do almost anything to keep him, other than pay 1st option starter money for him.

So they hate Jefferson and love Jefferson because they remember who Millsap used to be, even though he's apparently changed fundamentally? Again, this reeks of a lack of intellectual integrity and consistency. By your beloved metrics, he is, more or less, the same player as he was before AND superior to Al. Shouldn't you both prefer Millsap and understand why fans prefer him?
