Locke talked about this. He showed how Prince and Daye were more efficient, scored the same with less shots. This is why I think we could give Al away for nothing to another team and be a better team. Al takes so many shots, but they aren't efficient shots. It would be very easy to give our starters 1-2 more shots per game and be a better team not having Al's bad defense on the court.

The difference is that Rudy Gay is someone teams actually want.
I can't think of any team that would want a low-post scorer who can't defend. Nobody in the league really values that.
You'd be surprised how often I've read... on other forums and what not... that trading Jefferson to the Spurs "guarantees them a championship". LOL. It just goes to show that people don't all know him quite like we do. Now obviously these are simply fans and not paid scouts, but who knows, maybe there is still an Al market out there.

Yep my main problem w/Al as a player isn't that he's simply "a low-post scorer who can't defend" - it's that he's a low-post scorer who can't defend, allows himself to get outworked (on both offense & defense) and is alot closer to a volume-scorer than most people realize. You can tolerate someone who is weak at one end of the court if he more than makes up for it at the other. Al's offensive efficiency doesn't negate his defensive inefficiency to the point he should be your best player.
He's not a bad player by any means - he's skilled, productive and a handful for most centers - he's just not someone who should be a #1-option if your team has much ambition. As a secondary option in a more limited role (i.e. not playing 34-minutes against a team that can pick&roll you to death) he definitely has some value. How much? Who knows - although I think it says alot that Utah only had to give up Kosta Koufos (at the time their 3rd-center), their own lottery-protected pick and a lottery-protected pick from Memphis (essentially Ronnie Brewer).

The funny thing is, a lot of national guys think he can defend because of his 10 rebounds and 1 block per game.

Unlike Magic (for sure) and I think Shaq (maybe another ex-player, I thought it was shaq) who both said Spurs with Al pretty much are a lock to get to the finals. But they know nothing.
You guys who think no one can use him are fools, sorry. Yes, he needs to move on from the Jazz to free up time and shots for our young guys (AS DOES SAP) but on a contending team he makes them much better. Im all for trading him and Sap, do it now.
Sad that some of you think Big Al isn't on the same level as Gay. Yet, you want to give him the keys to the house, and build around him.
Their career numbers are very similar. Big Al's best career year was better than Gays, statistically at least.

Al is a good player. Boring but good. If we didn't have Favors and Kanter, I think people would like Al a whole lot more.
