What's new

How has the virus affected you directly?

As of tomorrow I'll be working 2 days in the office and 2 days a week at home for the next few weeks. We can't shut our front office completely down so the goal is to cut down on in house staff to 5 people a day down from 12. I hate working from home but I'm not complaining if I get to keep working.
Well at least you have a plan in place, seems like they are letting businesses figure this out on their own, not realizing that upper management at some of these places are out of touch old dudes that think this whole thing will just blow over.

I feel like our company has done a decent job.
Gave us some nice hazard pay. Have a nurse taking temps at the door. Put X's on the floor for where to stand for transition meetings. Many people working from home. Changed almost everyone's schedule to stagger when people would be in the locker room or break room so there can be better distancing. Alcohol bottles and hand sanitizer everywhere.
I have been pretty impressed. I work in a lab so I wear latex gloves 90 percent of my shift so that helps too. And my department is tiny.

Hazard pay??? What the **** is that? We got two handfuls of jack **** off our work. Said to the guys when this **** is over they'll likely give us some naff pin and a certificate to thank us for our service. Cant even get paperwork saying were an essential worker, makes it hard for the guys to make sure their kids have access to day care and ****.

Agreed. In the first day or two I thought their response was lacking but they have absolutely done as much as I could expect to continue operating while keeping us safe. If every employer and every retailer took similar measures MANY lives would be saved.

Are they letting you take proper sick days yet without getting fired?

Just got turned away at whole foods with my reusable bag. The mental health issues amongst the tree-hugging community will be large.

Clothes are still mandatory. For now.

There's 18 people in my department. We have to cover 24 hrs/day, so the max in the office usually is 10-12 people. We want to have 1 person in the office at all times for safety, in case there is a large Comcast outage (everyone in this area goes through them except for 1 person in my office). I work the help desk for a company that owns 5 hospitals, so it's kind of important.

Everyone has been given the option to work from home. I am still going in to the office for now, as I work the swing shift, and am alone most of my day anyway.

My cruise just got cancelled today officially. So that sucks.
I get my money back for the cruise and for the hotel but cant get my $1100 back from delta airlines. Which really sucks. I even bought the travel insurance for my airline tickets.

Also, we used to go on a 10 mile canoe trip every year with friends. Did it about 10-12 years. One summer was dry. We had already paid. And I remember the night before debating not going with my now wife. She like “But we paid?” I’m like, “Okay, we can go and be miserable because the river is low and it’s a bear,” or “stay at home and happily chill.”

Not the same amount of money but you get the point.

Pro tip - write edward.bastian@delta.com. His office of the President will answer your email and likely get you a better resolution.

We have/had a trip to the UK planned for the end of the month. Needing to call United. I bought non-refundable tickets so probably SOL.

I’m a Professor of Anthropology at a university in Texas. All our classes were put online for the rest of the semester. Which is not a bother to me. I feel pretty fortunate that I’m in a decent position to weather the storm.

I’m considered “essential” because I work for a distributor. My biggest concern isn’t me, but my 71 year old dad and 68 year old mother. I used to have dinner with them every Sunday but haven’t dared because I’m in the market all day. So, I go to work and then I go home. I try to get takeout as often as I can to support some of my clients since their business has been so harshly impacted.

Good luck, brotha.

We ordered from a legit restaurant Saturday night. Curbside pickup. Tipped 20%. I just ordered a pizza and calzone from a pizza place and they’re delivering. Tipped 20% on that too. Love our town. I want to do this every few days.
