Are the Jazz going to trade Rudy?

What max player has had their value hurt by an injury? And for 140M, I'd sit out. He will get paid. An injuries don't seem to hurt player's values...see my next paragraph.

As far as Hayward has gone...I don't think he regrets anything, do you? He got to go to Boston and play for the team he loved growing up. He got paid max money to do so. He got hurt and that was unfortunate, but nothing that would cause regret. Then, he wanted to have a bigger role in the offense, Boston said they didn't think that would happen, Hayward opted out and got another max deal. The grass might not have been greener for Hayward, but has been pretty damn green. Like a quarter of a billion dollars green. He is on pace to earn over 330 million dollars. I don't think anyone can say he's done anything wrong for himself.
The money is good obvi but he wanted to have his jersey retired he wanted a great legacy and that ain’t gonna be there. He didn’t want to go to Charlotte... he angled hard for Indiana... it isn’t what he thought it would be.

Isiah Thomas went from max candidate to minimum contract guy for one. Demarcus Cousins is another... it happens. He’s not like KD where if he tears his Achilles or tears his ACL that he will get that money back. Leg injuries on guys that big would scare away many suitors. It’s a valid concern.

I didn't follow why we suddenly went into desperation mode. What was the report that caused this angst? Why is it today or bust? I was under the impression we have until Dec. 21st.

We have time... its just the panic meter starts to bump up if we go to training camp without a deal. We know they are discussing it, so the fact it doesn't get done quickly means there are sticking points.

Not quite desperation mode but its time to get a little nervous.

Gotcha... I mentioned that each day that passed made me a little more nervous around 3 days ago on this post when this post was being mocked for being dumb. But it feels like things ratcheted up.

Nothing to see here until Dec. 21st by my count.

I think if it is easy you get it done before camp so it doesn't hang over media day etc. I wouldn't want this to hang over the team until opening night with the weird drama that unfolded over the last 12 months.

San Antonio is going to have 20 million dollars in committed salary - they've called about Gobert before.
So is New Orleans - Rudy playing for Van Gundy teamed with Zion.
Atlanta, Charlotte, New York, OKC, Memphis, Toronto, Chicago are all way WAY under the cap, gearing up for next season's free agent bonanza.

Since the All Star snub a year and a half ago, that Rudy just seems more emotional. There have been so many on court temper tantrums yelling at refs. He had the public dust up with Don where he clearly did something reckless in the lockerroom. After he didn't get DPOY, he seemed let down on the court. He has reportedly irritated teammates with comments about not getting the ball enough.

I think it's very possible that Rudy will get his feelings hurt if he isn't given enough money (by his lofty standards whatever those might be). I think he will take it personally if he isn't guaranteed as much as Donovan.

It is not a good sign that he still isn't signed.

If he wanted out he would already be gone and not be negotiating. He may decide he wants out because we haven't given him the Supermax but ongoing negotiations make no sense if he knows he wants to leave. Agreed that he is an emotional player and he has a huge need for outward respect.

Maybe... or he is basically saying supermax or nothing bitch. If they pay him then great. If not he just tells them let’s see what happens this year. Meanwhile he gets to see if Giannis signs... if not he’s the crown jewel on the market (or close to it). This is where DL and the front office learn about his true intentions and feelings. If he digs in then we should look to deal him. The return might be pretty meh but can’t let him walk for nothing.

I think it’s likely he wants to stay but the clock is ticking.

There is a middle ground that might work... we could offer a “supermax” and then have it decline by 8% each year... gets him around the same money as a regular max but he gets the ego boost and the contract will hurt more early but be more movable or easier to work around in the later years. Just a thought.

I don't think Rudy wants out; I think Rudy wants respect. He's craved it every step of the way. For crying out loud, his jersey number is his draft spot as a sign to all those teams who didn't draft him. He has a massive chip on his shoulder.

He wants to be respected as one of the best so I'm sure he wants to be paid like one of the best. This is the argument I've been making for about a year now. The guy is awesome, but he's not the combination of offensive, defensive and off court marketing talent that's worth much more than the regular max. If he expects anything near the supermax, he has to be traded.

Almost all supermax contracts are regretted not long after they are signed. Players just don't live up to the deal. Look at even Steph Curry after his injuries are taken into account, he won't be worth his supermax contract. People will think he is because he's Steph, but the output from the day he signed the deal until it's completed will be underwhelming.

I think you are repeating what I said. So I agree.

Agreed. I think he is saying Supermax or nothing. The question is, who folds first. If he wanted out and that was clear I think he would already be traded.
