What's new

Following 2016 potential draftees

He's a clod of an athlete.. like bad. But I'm glad we have him.

Yeah, I had to watch film after his so-so reviews at Hoop Summit and he looks like a 4 and done to me....but that's not a bad thing. Brad Waldow at Saint Marys has that build and kind of a plodder but nobody moves him on the block so he's extremely useful for the college game. He could be like that.

Is it just me or does this class seem a lot more raw than last years? Okafor, Towns, Tyus Jones, Winslow, Lyles, Johnson, Russell ... all had pretty advanced skill sets. This class seems like its a bit behind in that aspect.

That's what PKM has been saying as well... good thing we'll be shooting for the playoffs next year so no need to worry.

The scrimmage again gave NBA talent evaluators a chance to see the tremendous talent of Skal Labisserie, who quickly separated himself from the pack early in the week and just continues to put distance between himself and any other prospect on the World or US team. Today was the day that Labisserie showed off his shooting stroke, as he made a number of beautiful long-range jumpers with absolutely no hesitation and outstanding touch. He also attacked the rim when given the opportunity to, blowing by his defender in one instance and throwing the ball down with his (weaker) left hand, which was somewhat of a surprise. He also threw up a very smooth-looking floater from just inside the free throw line that seemingly hung in the air for a good ten seconds before finally dropping with incredibly soft touch.

His defense was also on display as part of the World Team's switching pick and roll defense, as he showed no problem moving his feet and staying in front of much smaller players and was even able to recover and make some impressive plays at the rim at times as well. "He has no idea how good he can be" was the line you heard repeated the most by NBA scouts, as while he's far from a finished product in terms of his body and skill-level, he most certainly has a natural feel for executing advanced plays combined with tremendous physical tools that gets NBA executives extremely excited.

Skal has looked beastly according to all reports I've seen. He seems to be stealing the show.

Ben Simmons measured yesterday and his measurements are not great. He's gotten taller(6'10'') but his wingspan and standing reach aren't the best - 6'11'' and 8'7'' respectively. This means he will most likely not be great at guarding most 4s in the league. I suspected he's going to have to be a SF in the league and according to reports he's been training with the group of perimeter guys at the Hoop Summit. He will need to develop a reliable shot...

This kid..

Sorry to intrude but this is somewhat of interest to me. Actually Ben's wingspan is 6'11" and 3/4. Skal's WS is half an inch longer at 7 feet tall yet everyone is super excited about his defensive ability. For what it's worth, Ben was pretty exceptional on last day of training while Skal struggled to make a shot. I like Skal too and happen to think a lot of people are underselling this class

Anyone know why Ben Simmons is going to LSU? Seems like a weird choice, no?

Also what position is he gonna play in the NBA? I think a playmaking SF right?

There can be no good reason he is going to LSU. ****tiest coach on the planet.
I see him as a SF. His handles and passing will be very good.

I think SF, he handles and distributes the ball at a very high level.

Simmons is the godson of LSU's assistant coach, who is Australian and knows a lot of the new emerging talent coming out from down under. That was the reason Exum was rumored to be interested in attending LSU as well, as far as I know.

Here's an article about it:

Dr. Jones, do you think he has enough offensive playmaking in the half-court to be successful in the NBA? I am a bit worried that he doesn't really have any semblance of a reliable jump shot. I was very high on him earlier, but the more I've watched him the more it looks like almost everything he does is on a break, and in the paint and he really lacks the perimeter game...
