What's new

2015 NBA Playoffs

Incredible series so far.

Did the announcers say it's the first Finals series where both games 1 and 2 went to OT?

Been impressed with Delladova, I like him. Seems quiet but hard. That attitude reminds me of Stockton.

No idea if it is actually acurate but after the parts I saw last night he just plays hard and leaves it at that. I don't see him chirping alot.

Stoked and Delly sittin in a tree

so you are not gonna watch it and stop commenting on the game? that's a win for the mankind.

....I will continue to watch AND comment just like the rest of you clowns! I'm not saying anything that the ESPN guys and other sports reporters all over the world and parts of Alabama haven't been saying about last nights game! It was poorly played on the part of both teams and an abomination to the sport of professional basketball! Poor shooting and poor ball handling, which was being excused for by supposedly great defense? Some good defense was played, but the shot selection and lack of ball movement by both teams resulted in the poor shooting percentages more than anything else!

...that is correct! And the 1st Finals in history where one player shot 2-15 from three point land! And possibly the 1st Finals where a team won the game......while shooting only 32% from the field!

The Cavs without Irving and Love are actually a better defensive team. The way the Warriors' offense works, it's actually more about the threat of Curry shooting a 3 than him actually doing it. The result is that Curry typically pulls 2 or sometimes even 3 defenders out of position, and this opens the floor for everyone else. With Delladova playing great D, it not only keeps Curry from scoring a lot of points, but also keeps the Ws offense from working to a large extent. The Cavs are doing basic traps up top to stop Curry's initial penetration, but then a lot of what Delladova is doing is in single coverage.

The Warriors should probably counter by playing Barboza more, simply because he can play on the ball and get all the way to the rim and finish from out on the floor. He can probably take his defender more often than not. Move Klay to the SF spot, likely guarded by Shumpert, and play Green and Festus to defend and rebound.

As hard as the Cavs are working, you'd have to think they'll start to wear down over the course of a series. There just isn't much depth there.

Do you remember if you watched this game and whether or not you had the same feelings?

or maybe this one?

I mean, look at those shooting percentages from Stockton and Hornacek!

Please advise, resident mouth breather.

....the first game noted above was certainly poorly played on the part of the Jazz with only 56 points being scored and the Jazz committing 26 turnovers! However, the worse shooting percentage by any player that game was just 1-7!

The 2nd game noted above was not nearly as bad as the trash we witnessed last night! The Jazz, the losing team, had 24 assists and only 10 turnovers! The Bulls, who won the game, had 18 assists and only 9 turnovers. Jazz shot over 40% and the Bulls shot 37%!!

....what Delly is doing defensively is DENYING Curry the ball! He's busting his butt to keep Curry from touching the ball! Then, after possession after possession after possession of NOT even touching the ball, when he does FINALLY get it, he's launching shots off balance and from way out in la la land! So what was suggested by an NBA player this morning, to counter act the ball denial defense by Delly, is have Curry BRING THE BALL up himself! He then can penetrate, run pick and rolls, run his man into a pick or a screen and get off a higher percentage shot! Even if it is a 3 pointer, at least it will be an open one! Last night, his shot selection made J.R. Puke blush....and we didn't think that was possible!

I think the best adjustment Curry can make is to try and get to the rim more against Delly. He can get around him easily if he pleases. His nature is too look for that 3pt shot though.

Ok, boys and girls! I'm going to lay this out to you and if you got a brain cell in your head, you'll pick it up and use it! This is what Delly is doing to Curry! I could not explain it any better so I'm just going to cut and paste for you to easily comprehend!

"There is ONE Fundamental Basketball Skill in coaching basketball defense that will change the game more than any other - NO, it's not give the ball to your best player and let them go - it's the concept of what we call: BALL DENIAL!

The fundamental skill of being able to DENY an offensive player the basketball, is one of the MOST IMPORTANT things to teach a youth player in coaching basketball defense.

An Offensive Player CANNOT score, if they do not have the ball. We EMPHASIZE strongly, the concept of 1-Pass Pressure to all the kids as we teach defensive fundamentals!

We start with a simple goal - DO NOT LET YOUR PLAYER HAVE THE BALL!

This will usually make the kids THINK one step ahead. Most youth basketball players THINK the first step is- "If my player gets the ball, then I will try hard NOT to let them score."

We want them to think ahead of that, and realize it is better NOT to let the player they are guarding even get the ball. When coaching basketball defense, developing a mentality of DENYING THE BALL is a most important!"

....this article points out clearly that you do NOT have to be "quicker" or "faster" than your opponent to accomplish this feat! It's just a matter of desire and some brains to accomplish this! Especially is this the case in the NBA, where you have a 24 second clock working in your favor! You only have to deny your man the ball for 24 seconds.....generally, even less than that! If he's not bringing the ball up the court, you can cut that by about 8 seconds, and now only have to deny him the ball for 16 seconds! Of course, the main thing you have to guard against is an off the ball pick or screen that could free your man up for a back door play! But NBA players in general, don't have the brains or skill to figure that out!

He wins this series with this motley crew of fundamentally sound misfits (excluding J.R. Puke, of course!) and he may just go down as better and more valuable than Michael Jordan, heh?

dude is playing in the finals, he may had 2 bad games but other than that he had a great season and very solid performance in the playoffs, especially against chicago when sometimes he just kept the cavs in the game

i am more than confident that he will still have a word to say in this finals

Th best thing Delly is doing is not biting on pump fakes and just staying connected to him.

I think the best adjustment Curry can make is to try and get to the rim more against Delly. He can get around him easily if he pleases. His nature is too look for that 3pt shot though.

That's exactly what Curry needs to do and will probably do. If he goes to the hoop a lot more it's gonna put Delly off balance and put him on skates, which will open up his 3 pointer. Curry can shoot from anywhere so this makes alot of sense. If they don't want him shooting threes then fine, he can shoot closer.

Also, I would expect the Warriors to run a lot more screens and Delly too.

I find it interesting and pleasing that the NBA isnt granting superstar calls for Lebron

Can you imagine if Lebron played with the same forgiveness from the refs as Jordan? You couldn't even breathe on Jordan.

I feel sorta bad for Lebron that he doesn't get the same treatment. But on the other hand, I like it too, because it was never right the way things were called back in the day.

I really like Jordan and would still put him number 1, but there can be a strong argument that he might only have about 4 or so titles if he wasn't getting the favorable superstar calls.

Re: Lebron, I don't think they were super star calls though, refs blatantly miss clear contact calls.

Sportscenter guy commented something like that team without LeBron are DLeaguers.... But now they just won a game in the Finals... Muahahahahaha...

Blatt is probably the best guy to be coaching this outmatched team? That's what he did with Tel Aviv right? He's right in his element.

not only that

he also won european championship with russia, beating on the way parker's france and gasol's spain in spain, what is considered one of the biggest upset in eurobasket

Also, I would expect the Warriors to run a lot more screens and Delly too.

...they are setting screens and picks for Curry, but Delly is getting through and denying Curry the ball! That's why the smart money on next games adjustment by GS is to let Curry BRING THE BALL UP himself! This would force Delly to guard Curry full court and all 24 seconds of the clock! (He's probably already covering Curry in the back court, to some extent!) I'm just repeating what an NBA guard said on "First Take" this morning on what adjustment GS needs to make to get Curry more "open" looks and less "J.R. Smith" forced shot looks! He keeps throwing up those off balanced forced shots from beyond the 3 point line, he ain't ever going to make an impact in this series! I know and have seen him hit some of those....but sooner or later, it's gonna catch up with you...know what I mean, Vern?

...don't know much about the guy and his coaching career, but whatever he's doing in this series....is working!
