It was really hard to watch for me personally, I actually felt physically claustiphobic & sick, the way the boy would have felt on that cramped couch & cramped room and being pressured to say things that they wanted to hear. Knowing that he was tricked into doing it without his mom knowing what was going on made it worse.

On another note, what did you guys think about the judge who oversaw and handed out the sentence to Steven Avery? Willis I think his name was? I thought he was pretty bias.... he said something along the line of "you are the most dangerous man and should be locked up". Is that normal in these cases for a judge to make this kind of comment?


How about he fact that Steven's appeal was overhead by the same judge? Shouldn't another judge with a fresh pair of eyes oversea the appeal?


The whole thing's just so frustrating to me...

The way they worked the confession from that kid makes me completely sick. False confessions are not only real but somewhat common. I don't know what else will be revealed, but what the kid has said as of ep.3 is completely worthless. There's no way to have confidence that it's based on the tiniest sliver of reality.

As if that wasn't sickening enough - the part where his first lawyer's investigator brainwashed him into confessing a second time was enough to make you physically ill.

Kachinsky and that other one deserve to rot in hell.
 
I've still only watched 5 full episodes and a little of 6 and am rewatching (just started episode 3) again, this time with MsSerp.

Anyway, I post this because I've thought the setting and intricate plot here would make for a fanTAStic season 3 of True Detective. Season One brought us an entire world in Louisiana. Not only the visual setting but the characters (pitch perfect acting from every little role), the music, everything. Season 3 with this could be similar. Very bleak like Fargo, the movie (I've not seen much of the show), yet different with a fascinating dichotomy between the Avery's and what seems to be pretty much the rest of the town.
 
I'd add also that while season 1 of TD was one based more in religion and culture, and season 2 was one of more politics and government, this (season 3) one could be more based on social class.

OK but to be honest I wouldn't want to re-watch a dramatisation version of this after having seen the documentary & real people & real interviews & real evidence, etc. I just don't see the point, tbh. No matter how good the acting is, it would never be as good as the real thing.


May be if you haven't seen the documentary it might make for good drama, but for people who have seen the doc I just don't see the point.
 
That Lachinsky dude comes across shady as hell. Plus he's a moron for letting Brendan be interviewed by the police alone.

Yeah maybe I wasn't clear. I guess I was just saying that the feel to this would be perfect for a season 3.

I really don't see how Brendan's "testimony" wasn't thrown out on this alone. That, along with the obvious leading, along with the alibi... I just finished season 4 where they found an evidence box from Avery's first case with two seals broken, and a hole in the top.

It's mind boggling that this kind of cronyism still exists.

I'm really interested to see what happens with the jury. I'm having a hard time seeing how a conviction came from this.

Just watched a few episodes. What a mess.

The justice system is so corrupt and it's broken. It has been since forever. We should always be examining the way these things are handled. It's disgusting how much unchecked power these sick people have.

It's just doesn't make sense how this can happen. The courts have way too much power. All those people that work for that court house and law enforcement should be put in prison for the rest of their lives. Simply for what they did the first time. But no, they get to double down and do it all over again in plain view. It's so crazy. It's like they are all sick and twisted evil people getting off on this.

On episode 5. Best documentary I've seen since One Day in September. Being a Forensic Files junky, I've assumed that in many of these small town cases, it is too easy plant DNA, and interesting how open and shut cases seem to be when found.
