I'm on the record for saying before last night that I didn't except a win-- but I was hoping for a closely contested match. It's difficult having that expectation against the team with the largest home-away disparity in the NBA last season, as well as when you think about us missing our two best players & longest tenured Jazzmen.

With that said, there was something that happened last game that was super super encouraging, that I haven't really seen much with other Jazz teams.

There was 2 or 3 points last night where the Blazers were on the verge of breaking the game wide open & handing the Jazz a proper defeat-- but each time this happened, one player would stand up and bring the Jazz back into it.

The first time this happened was definitely in the first half by George Hill. That play where he jumped up and snatched the ball specifically was a time when the starters came back in for the bench, and the Blazers were flirting with a double-digit lead. He willed the Jazz back into it, with Rodney Hood obviously right there with him.

Then obviously in the second half we know what happened-- Joe drops 27 of his 29 points.

it reminds me of Game 2 in the NBA finals back in 2011, when Miami seemed to be cruising towards a victory against Dallas. For a while no one could get anything going except Shawn Marion-- who kept on hitting these buckets and kept the game *just close* enough for a late-game comeback. We really, really need performances like that from our supporting cast-- and that's what we got last night. Our team doesn't need 30 points from JJ and 20 points a night from George Hill-- but the fact that both are possible and both happened in the first night of the season bodes rather well for this Jazz team.

Boris was a tragic let-down (especially after a fairly good preseason campaign) but one game doesn't define a season. Hopefully more Lyles minutes, and less Mack minutes (dude got lost on Crabbe EVERY ****ING TIME) for next game. Go Jazz.

Yep. I didn't expect a win either, frankly. But the Jazz went toe-to-toe with a Western Conference playoff team at their home, without the Jazz's two best players, and were right in it until the end. I think it bodes very well for the future.

That being said, the upcoming stretch is brutal. After the Lakers we've got four more WC playoff teams in a row. If Hayward and/or Favors don't come back soon we might dig ourselves a pretty large hole.

Relax, my man. We will still be far above .500 come January.

Jazz have until Sunday to integrate Favors back into the offense before the real challenge starts. If Favors is participating in shootaround, the extra five days should be enough to have him participate. If we have Favors back, I'm not really frightened of the Clippers, as we match up pretty well with them. We need to start phasing Mack back to third string though. . .

Jazz will be just fine in my opinion. They were very competitive last night despite being down 2 starters. Seemed to me that the main guys ran a bit low on gas towards the end because of the smaller rotation. Easy fix once fully healthy.

Here's Favors at shootaround today:

My thinks exactly I bow down.

One think I did not like was fans getting on Lyles when he was missing good looks. I was in the new chat thing an they were calling him a chucked an looked rushed. This is nonsense. Lyles played great it is just that Portland got real hot. They were lucky is all an we will crush them when they cannot start out 7 of 8 from three an Lillypad making the crazy lucky shots.

But King Cy said there was a 50% chance of winning ... what gives ??!!

I agree Mack was rubbish ..

I still believe we would have won the game even if we had Favors OR Gordo.... and I don't think it would have even been close

They both would have made a huge difference, we especially needed Favors last night. The Blazers are a good team though, and especially at home.

Tweet by Andy Larsen:

"Derrick favors said he will go through shootaround tomorrow and see how he feels before making a decision on if he plays."

He practiced today.

Tony Jones tweeted this:

""We're at the point where it's kinda futile to ask about Burks daily. We'll get the same answer."

Also apparently Snyder was a little onery during interviews today. Clip of him pointing out that Utah held Portland to less 3s on Tuesday than any game, but 1, last season.

Portland was a tough match-up for us in a season opener, down 2 starters. More Favors means less Diaw and while I think Boris will be a huge X factor for us, it needs to come in small doses off the bench. I agree that Utah answered every time it seemed like Portland was about to put them on ice and that was great to see. I really hope Utah can get healthy and stay healthy for once because I think we are in a class above Portland when at full strength.

There were signs of hope in the season opener, but for me it was still a frustrating loss. It will be nice to get out there tomorrow night and bury the Lakers.

It was a great game and they had a guy named Damian Lillard and we didn't. The end.

Next time it will be a great game and we will counter Damian Lillard with our full arsenal. #takenotemudderfckrs

Resilient remains to be seen, but we have started off just as brittle as ever. Sure hope the injuries play less of a role this season.

In LockedonJazz today Locke says that Favors felt good after practice in Portland and is a game time decision tonight.

Hayward is going to try shooting basketballs for the first time since his injury. Hayward is "chomping at the bit", Hayward's family flew to Portland to watch. He talks about maybe the end of the first big road trip as a return for Hayward as an optimistic return. So Monday the 14th v Memphis?

No mention of Burks at all. Seriously?

Tony Jones twitter:

"Derrick Favors went through shootaround this morning. Snyder said he will see how Favors feels pregame before making a decision on tonight"

But the Jody Genessy said this on twitter:

"Derrick Favors is expected to play tonight."

Over all it sounds pretty likely that Favors plays. So 1 of 3 back?

Brittle? I would hump a cactus befor I called this start brittle.

Please do. Shove a big ol' cactus right up that vag of yours and give it a good twist.

the jazz just posted on their instagram that favors is expected to play tonight
