What's new

Official UofU homer thread

I agree with you, it was not my intention to underestimate that aspect. I didn't make it clear but his speed is great. Pretty sure that's not enough in the NFL though. He gets extra yards with his speed and the effect of him coming through the line and realizing he is probably gone is awe inspiring. He has also played with a lot more toughness than he was to begin the season, that has been fantastic.
.
In the NFL his speed can be marginalized because he's not great at making guys miss, he's not great at beating a guy 1 on 1 in space. He is fast, not shifty. He probably has a place in the NFL, but I would not be surprised if he doesn't get drafted at all. Because of RB's not being as sought after, him quitting during his senior season, and his lack of other NFL skills outside of speed, he may not be drafted because of those factors.
.
All that said his speed when he has field in front of him is amazing.

The part I disagree with you on is the part where you said other RB's would have ran through those holes too.

One a bunch of Joe's long TD runs, any of our other RB's would've had a nice gain, but not a TD. This isn't a case of Joe having a completely open field, it's him beating super fast dudes to the spot, even when they have the angle on him.

Overestimating? I have him going in the bottom half of the third round. I'm not saying he is an elite back.
Bottom half of the 3rd round is way high for him. Booker went at the end of the 4th round. Bottom half of the 3rd round is for guys that are elite at the RB position. Or at least have the potential to be.
.
Last year there were a grand total of 4 backs selected in the 1st 3 rounds of the draft.

I wasn't talking about our other RB's. But the others another poster mentioned. And I'm not sure any of them house them like Joe did because his speed is exceptional. But they have huge gains on a majority of them.

Joe will go in the 6th or 7th round IMO

Watched the first Utes basketball game some thoughts:

-If there was any doubt this is Kyle Kuzma's team, nearly had a 20-20. torch been passed from Delon to Jakob and now Kuzma.
-Sometimes you don't know want to expect from JC guys but Tyler Rawson was impressive, seems like the teams glue guy- does the dirty work, blocking shots, makes hustle plays, and can also knock down some shots.
-Gabe Bealer athleticism was on display, some nice drives and finishes at the hoop
-Devon Daniels really struggled early on but got better as the game went along
-Bonam was oddly quiet, just a off night for him
-Jayce Johnson has got nice patience around the rim and was able to keep drawing fouls
-We really struggled shooting from downtown, Parker Van **** had a rough night shooting

was a bit of sloppy performance you can kind of expect from a team that's new playing together but there was some positives we can build on

Utah needs to finally finish off a year strong. It's all right in front of them and they control their own destiny. This is usually when the wheels come off. Go win the South and play for the right to go to the Rose Bowl!

Hard to believe that with 2 regular season games left, CFP, Rose, NY6 at large, and Vegas Bowl are all realistically in play. Stakes couldn't be higher.

It's definitely exciting to be a Utah fan in this day and age.

Yep. Love it. LOVE IT!!!

On the basketball game post that prodigy made...

You and I think much alike. I was there.

Here's my summary I made the morning after...

I would agree on Bonam. I guess I just didn't notice because so many other people were getting minutes and playing fairly well.
Based on a single game, Rawson is my favorite player on the team so far. Looked good.

So I think our chances of going to the Rose Bowl just got a major boost with Louisville losing. That makes it even more likely a one-loss Washington can get into the CFP, which hopefully reverts us back to where we are in the Rose Bowl win or lose in the PAC-12 Championship - provided we take care of business and wrap up the PAC-12 South.

The Pac 12 championship is gonna be Washington vs Colorado, just ask espn, gonna be hilarious when it's WSU vs Utah

I have no idea what's going to happen, Colorado's strength is their pass defense so it should be a interesting game vs Wazzu. USC probably isn't going to lose to UCLA so we have to go 2-0 either way. Just booked a trip to Colorado for the game. Hopefully we can pull it off boys!
