What's new

Could we win the championship this year?

thats quite the fantasy. Applying that rationale to NBA projections seems extreme and misguided.. What about 'the cream always rises to the top' bruh? Thats what happened with Trump, why not the Warriors? They lead the league in blocks and steals.

Last year the team that played the best basketball won the Chip and it's likely to happen again.

I am not big on picking front-runners, as you can probably tell being that I'm an out of state Jazz fan. When I do though I like to pick strong ones, and the Warriors are one of the strongest early season teams I an ever recall.. KD continues to shoot 57% from the field..

The very logic and rationale you shoot down and call silly is the very same type of logic and rationale you're applying to the Warriors. Confirmation bias. None of it predicts what will happen 6 months from now. There is just too many variables at play to have any solid idea what is going to happen.

And I really hope the Jazz players don't fall into the same trap that so many others do. Going into the playoffs believing the other team is some how inherently superior is a one way ticket to that prophecy.

Rudy will have an impact on their slashing inside game, but they still pass well, and when Rudy goes to help another player, our guys don't rotate well to get him help. The GS passing game will exploit our issues on both ends of the court.

We haven't seen us with our starting five yet. My guess is Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Hill, and Hood can be pretty good(as in, best in the league) on D. Hood would be the only weak link defensively, and he's been pretty decent lately.

Not gonna happen. Jazz have Gobert

That was a good game for our bench. A game they can take confidence from. They played a healthy G.S. team hard. It will contribute greatly to our winning the championship this year.

A few weeks ago, I would have laughed. Now?
I don't know what Rudy has been taking, but I want some. Two of the past three games, the team has been very close to 50/40/90!
Our bench is getting some very valuable playing time to shake off the rust. Ingles looks legit, Diaw looks like he's 25 (well except for that espresso belly), Lyles is shooting better.
As a fan, I can't wait to get some of our Walking Dead back.

Lyles was 4/14 last night. But he had a fairly impressive stat line overall. Especially in just 19 min.

Yes we can. Clearly a lot of things would need to fall into place, being healthy and playing with conviction being the main one. But, yes, if the playoff seeding shakes out to our favor and we are playing well with a pretty full roster, there is definitely a chance.

Gonna be fun watching everyone jump on the bandwagon as they realize how good we are and can be.

About... 4% chance according to fivethirtyeight.

Theoretically, yes. We're good enough offensively and elite defensively. We could win it this year. But things would have to go perfectly for us. We'd have to be at our best during the playoffs and maybe catch a few breaks with playoff matchups/Injuries on other teams. Realistically, probably not our time yet.

We have a really good complete roster right now.

We are just misses some bad ***. We aren't nasty enough for a ring run.

Lyles is soft as butter and has to go.

I think we lack an elite scorer and that is what holds us back from being able to win a title right now.

At one point not long ago the Jazz were 65:1 to win the Chip. According to Sportsbook.ag they're now 100:1...

Would love to see someone in here try to deconstruct how that came to pass.

they do seem like a damn good team for 100:1 tho... no doubt about it.

It's funny this thread is about the championship.. They can't even win the west this year..

ODDS TO WIN THE 2016-17 WESTERN CONFERENCE
Golden State Warriors 1/2
San Antonio Spurs 18/5
Houston Rockets 6/1
Los Angeles Clippers 20/1
Memphis Grizzlies 35/1
Utah Jazz 50/1

Winning a division has nothing to do with winning a championship, as the Spurs have shown a few times.

More important, it match-ups in the playoffs, health, etc. We got to the WC Finals with DWill and Booz due to some lucky matchups. Anything could happen. I think we have the pieces, they just aren't fully developed. We need Dante to learn to draw contact, we need the team to be healthy to jell, we need Rudy to keep developing, etc. And most importantly, Quin needs to learn to coach better.
