Has Hayward effectively "opted in"?

With Griffin and Paul "opting out" and it appears that unless stated otherwise, that opt out date was June 24, does that mean he's opted in and playing out the remainder of the contract? If this is already in another thread please merge.

"Player options are always an interesting leverage play heading into free agency. Guys with player options built into their contract with have until June 24 (unless an alternate date is set in their contract) to either opt in or opt out of the current deals before potential hitting unrestricted free agency in July."

Anyone know more than this?

Fansided is like the mangy bitch in bleacher report's menagerie. Please delete the link an cut off a finger in penance.

Hayward has until 6/29 to opt out. He still hasn't opted out, but will most likely do it in the next couple of days.

He has until 06/30 to opt out and has already indicated that he will on 06/30.

Something he and his agent agreed on.

If there is a tragic seal accident in San Diego, and Hayward can never play again, he can still collect on one more season.

Link?

What purpose does waiting serve?

Also give him the ability to watch what other teams are doing and decide if he wants to opt in and go for the mega max next summer.

Right now I dont see the allure of signing with Boston for hayward. they already have Tatum, Crowder and Brown playing the same position he does. Now I would love to see a S n T for hayward to go to boston. We could bet crowder and Tatum.

Odds are real high that he will opt out but there is a case to be built for opting in if he think he will make the all NBA team next year. And it allows him one more year to see what the shake out is with LeBron, Paul George, etc.

If he thinks he will make the all-nba team next year he would sign a 1 and 1. That gives him a raise this upcoming season and the ability to sign for the super max next off season. Unless there is something I am missing.

It allows him to keep in contact with Jazz management until the date he opts out, for starters.

I hope this is the case. I hope he is working with Jazz management and being upfront about expectations. I don't want him to leave. But my biggest fear is that we are totally in the dark about it and are going to get a nasty surprise come July 1.

Fair point. I know that most people expect him to opt out, but I still think that opting in has merit. If he does opt in, does PG come to Utah? We could afford his balls for one. It would give him a one year with GH and PG on the same team and both are free agents next year. If they go far, you have to start thinking they both stay...

Pipe Dream.

Then again, my last pipe dream was that the Jazz would trade up into the lottery to grab Donovan Mitchell. ;)

Hopefully if he leaves it doesn't come out on July 4th, quick way to ruin a day off lol

There is zero reason for him not to opt out... even if he only signs a 1+1 he gets a raise. Although... missing a deadline and not filing paperwork has happened. Who know what could happen.

1+1 are so sketchy imo, ya you can make more in the long run but if you have a career ending injury during that first season you severly ****ed up.

Oh... I wouldn't take one... I'd be a 4+1 guy, but these guys think they are immortal.
