Mark Bartlestein (Hayward's agent) to be on 97.5/1280 The Zone in 15 minutes

I don't see why you cannot respect fans decision to be pissed.

We pay the salaries. We allow them their livelihood. Our passion gives them employ. Why is the assumption we are passive spectators?

Fans may be pissed because it seems he dragged his feet to some extent perhaps possibly costing the Jazz a potential move to soften the blow to losing GH, but other than that, they can't be pissed about his decision to leave. Fans are only pissed because our team, at this point in time, most likely will be worse than they were last year. The rest of this nonsense about loyalty and other various romantic notions about pro sports are naive and juvenile.
They can be pissed about his decision to leave too

Yes, but he knew he wanted out. Why this big act. If he were a man of character, he would've let the Jazz know much earlier.

The only person who knows the true answer is Hayward and perhaps his wife. It is pure speculation as to when he knew and to what degree he knew it. Everybody is simply constructing a narrative based on rumor's, innuendo, and extrapolation based only the outcome.

When do you think it was appropriate for him to tell the Jazz?

What would be the reasoning other than the team might be worse off?

It's the only reason I'm upset. I'd be upset even without the delay. As every fan should be. I don't understand people who see pro sports as purely business, and yet they continue to watch and call themselves fans.

I'd be upset if I actually thought Utah would have done anything. The only report was they would OPJR liked the Jazz's contract better, but he signed Brooklyn's instead bc Utah had to wait on Hayward.

I think that is total BS though. I dont think Utah was going to sign anyone if they lost out on Utah. I dont see Gallo choosing Utah over LA and that is the only person I really wanted (and who I think Utah actually wanted).

Fandom and sports business can't be separated. Fans are fine with the business aspect of pro sports as long as it works in the team's favor.

Fans are indifferent to the business. They only care about the quality and future of the team.

If DL mistreated Hayward and that caused him to leave, we would all turn against DL. But he didn't, so now Hayward is the enemy.

They definitely care about the business side. Fans complain about contracts given out all the time.

DL haggled over a million dollar difference. We could have had Hayward for 4 years if DL wasn't stupid (back then). I think DL has learned a lot since then, but he was at contract negotiations back then.

Fans only care about the team. Business happens to be an integral part of sports. It's incidental. Only the fate of the team is relevant. So people who say it's just business are either emotionally uninvested (not fans) in a team, or insincere. Because you know, it is irrelevant to fandom outside of the logistics of building a team for those in the know.

I agree. There simply wasn't a replacement for Hayward on the matket. I actually think that the guy who will be asked to shoulder a lot of the load will be Joe Johnson. That contract looks like solid gold at this point. Johnson/Jingles/Hood will be asked to replace Hayward's production. Burks/Mitchell/Exum will be asked to replace Hood's production. Jazz are going to need to get more scoring out of everyone on the team. Curious to see how Rubio does. Is he just a pass first guy, or can he increase his own point per game production as well?

George Hill's stats prior to Utah. . .

11.3 points per game - 3.3 rebounds per game - 3.2 assists per game - 0.9 steals per game - .801% free throw % on 2.6 attempts per game - .376 3 point % on 3.1 attempts per game

His one year in Utah under Quin Snyder. . .

16.9 points per game - 3.4 rebounds per game - 4.2 assists per game - 1.0 steals per game - .801 free throw % on 4.0 attempts WR game - .403 3 point % on 4.8 attempts per game

Ricky Rubio's stats through his career thus far. . .

10.3 points per game - 4.2 rebounds per game - 8.5 assists per game - 2.1 steals per game - .830 free throw % on 3.9 attempts per game - .315 3 point % on 2.1 attempts per game

I have hope that Quin Snyder and his player development staff will help Ricky Rubio improve his 3 point shot just like Paul Millsap, Demarre Carroll, George Hill and Joe Ingles have. It may not be by much, but even a slight increase in attempts and makes will improve Rubio's offensive numbers dramatically.

Good lord people take this all too personally. The young man had major career decision to make and he chose to go elsewhere. I don't see why people cannot respect his decision and his freedom to choose by any criteria he wants. I think he did it in a fair manner and it's his choice. I hope we can all be accorded some respect and freedom when we make a career shift.

It's just incredibly ridiculous to compare this to one of us changing career. Do 20,000 people go crazy cheering for you while you work ? Are people and their kids spending money on your merchandise ?? Sport is ALL about passion and taking things regarding your team personally. All he contrived BS he and his agent have come out with are so obviously manufactured and disingenuous that's why people feel like it's a slap in the face: the fact that he's made zero mention of the teammates he's been to war with and has been so easily able to put aside those relationships speaks volumes. He's a fake who is all about himself and his carefully crafted image. The gulf between him and Rudy as men and stand up leaders is enormous.

Get over yourself.

It's his life, his decision.

It is a business. Did you listen to the interview? It had a lot more data than the supposed transcript in this thread.

Let's see your man Rudy when he is a UFA for the 1st time.......I'll lay a bet he walks as well......

The more I listen to what has come out, it feels to me DL's decision to make Hayward look during RFA is a big factor. Just my gut feel.

He texted DL, He talked to Quin immediately with the decision.

None of us know what was said at that time but some people hold a grudge.

Why are you still here?

Reasoning doesn't matter. Fans can be upset with haywood.
I just hope you can get over that fact.

Not cause we give a **** what they make though.
We complain about contracts cause they affect how good the team is.

If we are winning championships and the Millers want to pay withey 50 million per year then I have no problem with it.

I found it odd that Hayward texted Lindsey instead of calling. I know it's not quite the same thing but I'd be pretty annoyed if one of my most valuable employees quit and sent me a text instead of a phone call. Seems rather unprofessional.

I'm buying the best seats I can and booing this mother****er as loud as I can when BOS comes to town.

Not really. I'd estimate I got 90% of Bartlestein's responses down. Yes, I missed some things, but not a ton.
