As the trade deadline inches closer...

There are a few scenarios I can see the Jazz doing and why (or why not):

Scenario 1:
They just sit on their hands. We don't trade for anyone or for picks. This means the Jazz may be okay with letting Favors walk and we pretty much solidify that the tank is in full force. There really isn't a reason not to. We won't get dead last in the nba but we'll definitely be down there.

EXIT: Favors and JJ

Scenario 2:
They salvage the season by trading for players. They open the bank (player wise) and trade anyone they can not named Donovan or Rudy. Maybe we get Mirotic, Hill, or anyone that can turn our team around for the season. We are only 4 games away from the 8th spot BUT only 4 games away from being the worst. We make the playoffs and probably get swept.

Scenario 3:
We trade everyone we can for picks (not named Donovan or Rudy). We'll obviously have to take back some bad contracts for this but this entirely means we're going into full rebuild mode. Hopefully, we draft some good kids that want to work hard like Rudy and Donovan and we see the coming of what we got.

Obviously, some of these can mix and match but that's pretty much where we are at. We have just over 2 weeks to see if anything can happen

After last night, I think it's a waste of time to target any player who is solution for now. So guys like Kemba, Love, and Mirotic now seem like poor choices because of our timing. Using a good asset for another potential short term rental would be a massive mistake (like Hill and Rubio). We need to go into asset accumulation.

If Favors can fetch us any kind of 1st, we gotta get it. If Hood is truly out, get us a pick or young player. Maybe we consider a guy like Fournier because he is locked up on a long term deal. Other than that, get picks.

I don't agree, really. Firsts are all nice and good, but even if we give up on this season (lots of time left, but I do agree it doesn't look great), we plan to be good next season, and guys like Kemba or Mirotic helps us a lot then, first rounds picks probably don't. Not saying we shouldn't target picks, but targeting players that fit is a good idea too.

Jordan just came out and supported Kemba. He won't be traded for what we have.

If Mirotic was going to happen, I think it would have by now. If Chicago sells low on deadline day, jump on it. If not, let it play out. No reason to use an asset to get a guy on 18 months.

And hgb, I agree that picks can be overrated. However, I think we can be major players in the summer if we had multiple 1st rounders, multiple expirings and some cap space. There are going to be major sellers this summer when half the league realizes they are in the luxury for next season.

Not necessarily true. The market for Mirotic hasn't been very strong. I doubt that Chicago has received an offer that matches their asking price. They are likely waiting to see if that will change as the deadline approaches. DL isn't going to bid against himself and give up more than he has too in order to rush to get a trade done.

True SCS. Mirotic can still happen. I'm open to him, but I don't think we should sacrifice a ton for a guy who isn't signed long term.

I hope we make a few trades. I'm okay with getting picks, players that fit better like Mirotic or even chasing young players with upside. Especially ones who look like their team won't be able to match when their rookie deal end or one not being developed because they have others the team has ahead of them.

It can't get here soon enough.

I think we are gonna really miss Favors when he is gone.
I think Rodney will make us regret ever letting him go.
I think Rubio needs to go, but will be unmovable.
Yes, I hope Ricky will be unmovable from the bench. He needs to go back to Europe to finish his career.

I can see playoff teams inquiring about Johnson, Hood and Favors especially. I think Favors is definitely gone. Burks is a maybe - depending on what DL is offered. Hood's only traded if DL is offered a 1st or a solid rotation player. Johnson would definitely help a playoff team - since he's a rental a trade to a contender would be a goodwill gesture - traded alone I'm assuming he'd net a 2nd round pick and nothing more.

I hope DL goes all in and we see Favors, Hood, Burks, Johnson and Rubio all moved. Bring back picks and young players that compliment Gobert, Mitchell and Exum. It appears the FO is wanting to build around those 3. Cool, ok. Then let's do it, all in.

Sounds great if only it was that easy.
