ESPN homerizing the "victim all star" again

Also the guy from the end of the game did an interview and said he didn’t say anything. Just wanted video pics of the players.

I find their story as likely as Westbrook’s.

The fan was being rude and so was Russell Westbrook? Some of the dumbest ****ing logic.

So if someone punches me in the face for no apparent reason, that’s rude but I shouldn’t punch them back because that would be rude to do so?

C'mon man. that is a false analogy. Attacking someone physically is different than attacking them verbally. One instigates the principal of self-defense the other doesn't.

The point is it shouldn't be expected that someone just stand there and take verbal abuse. Verbally going after them is completely fine imo.

I attend games in Sacramento and GS... 90% of their fans are cool... but when I go on the concourse it isn’t uncommon to hear a fan tell me I effing suck or gtfo... my son is usually with me too... so look idiots everywhere... and part of me want to get up in they face but I give them the wtf stink face and move on.

It’s sports... if its within the bounds of what can be said then give them hell... clearly it bothers them. I mean security ain’t kicking out those fools that cuss at me.

So when Westbrook screams profanity towards the fans under the basket after a made shot they should go to the press and whine about it. Or when he slaps, pushes or incites one of our players they should have right to go full MMA on them? Oh, and what about when he said he was going to shut Rubio's **** off, in the context some of you are making it this wouldn't that be a threat? I guess none of you have ever talked any trash while engaged in competition. Dang, you are all wonderful people.

I can't believe there are people taking Westbrooks side off nothing but hearsay. It's pathetic and offers nothing but more racially charged nonsense in this day and age. If something bad was said or if someone stepped over the line then come right out and tell us what he said and also explain why you didn't get security involved. I don't condone fans acting out of line, but this story reeks of Westbrook acting like a child. And it's not the first time this dude has acted out after getting beat.

I never said Russell Westbrook should just take the verbal abuse. He can quiet the crowd with his play or he can yell back at the crowd, whatever. The choice is his. Many players knock down a shot and then put their fingers at their lips to insinuate that the crowd should be 'silent'.

RWB was in every right to talk or yell back at the fan (and RWB never actually made contact with the fan). If anything Hood's 'altercation' with a fan holding the cell phone was more egregious than RWB's since he actually knocked the cell phone out of the fan's hand.

I just don't agree with Westbrook that the Utah crowd is inherently worse. He lost an emotional game and he is an emotional player.

they're yelling "you suck" in Sacramento?...I suggest stop wearing your Kings jersey to the games...

Fair enough. Without going back, I didn't think though that this was what you said at all. At least it's not how I took it. Probably just poor reading on my part or it was lost in translation.

I think we all agree but has it came out what was said?
If it was “how are your ankles?” Then should we be way upset with the fan who said that? Or only if it was racist or about family or something.

Is it ok to say something like “bye bye, don’t let the door hit ya on the way out” as he is exiting the court (not taking the time to shake any jazz players hands for that matter)?

How about when the dj plays Hit The Road Jack when a player gets tossed or fouls out? Is that ok or is that over the line?

Westbrook has thin skin... he’s a total assholes to certain reporters that he feels have been critical of him. Asking how his ankles are is totally within the bounds of what is fair... good hell this thing is stupid.

Ironically it was a Kings fan and I was wearing my Jazz gear. I literally just laughed and said okay bro... I was with my son and daughter that time 10 and 7... so there are idiots in every stadium.

there won't ever be total agreement on this topic because people's opinions differ on what is acceptable to blurt out and what's not...however, in your list I think most people would agree that one thing is not like the others and lumping that together has a tendency to muddy-up the conversation...just IMO as always...go Jazz!!!

not so ironic, I wouldn't expect a Jazz fan to be saying it to someone in Jazz gear, that would be awkward :)...I was just making a bad joke...

Yeah, my post was kind of all over the place. Sorry about that. I was just going off on a tangent overall about the weird expectation of rationality between players and fans in a hyper-emotional environment.

Let's be honest, the discourse that happens in a sports arena would be considered 'rude' in any other venue - but that is the beauty of sports.

I actually disagree with Westbrook in a large part because he complains that
he is being disrespected by the Utah fans (more than likely - he is playing on the road). However, in the same interview he is highly disrespectful to any reporter that asks him a question he doesn't like. He cannot have his cake and eat it too.

The reporters are probably being subtly racist too. You wouldn't understand.

Honestly, I'm surprised Westbrook held his composure as well as he did with that fan considering he just lost the series and some idiot sticks a phone in his face, I would've lost all control, maybe.

He should be able to hold his composure. He is a professional athlete representing the NBA.

Are the reporters being subtly racist to Paul George, Carmello Anthony, Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell as well? Or is it only to Russell Westbrook?

If your comment was sarcastic, I apologize.

BTW - the reporter asked a question about the off-season and Paul George re-signign. I could look up the clip if you like.

It was a joke.
