Windhorst: If LeBron leaves, the Cavs will make Love available for trade

Deal restructuring almost never occurs. I actually can't think of one off the top of my head.

I found this little tidbit which is interesting:

Player contracts may be renegotiated beginning on the third anniversary of the signing of the contract, or the third anniversary of any subsequent extension of the contract.

A player contract may not be renegotiated from March 1 through June 30.

If a player contract is extended and renegotiated simultaneously, then the amount of the player’s salary in the first season of the extended term may decrease by no more than 40% of the player’s salary (as renegotiated) in the last season covered by the original term

So they I guess they could renegotiate Melo's deal to make around $16-17 million this year instead of $28. But honestly, I think the best chance Melo has to play with LeBron is for LeBron to go elsewhere and Melo join him in 2019.

No one should want to play with Melo... he’s cooked... I wouldn’t give back one dime if I was him... he’s going to be a minimum contract dude going forward.

Given Kevin Love's contract, I don't think Cleveland could really get much back for him. Nor do I think the Jazz should bring him and his deal on. If they did, that would basically max out cap space and be the final piece that would be added. I'd rather have Tobias Harris or maybe even Mirotic.

Love over Favors is a net positive. Another thing that would improve the team is being able to have Udoh play the backup spot. Before, Udoh would get minutes with Jerebko, and as Jonas isn’t really a scoring threat, it magnifies Udoh’s offensive limitations. Playing more minutes next to Love really negates that, and Love’s rebounding negates Udoh’s poor rebounding.

I give up next year’s first rounder for him. I think his impact is being underrated.

It was the 12th at the time.

No it wasn’t. Gobert wasn’t going to stay hurt forever and the schedule was gonna get easier.

The tank was a lie and the pick being a good one was always fools gold.

Perhaps more likely than trading for Love would be to go out and get Trevor Ariza? He can guard multiple positions (2-4) which is exactly what DL loves. He can step out and hit the three. He is a free agent and would come much cheaper. It will be interesting to see how many teams go after him.
