Donovan wins ESPY

I get it you’re nervous, whatnot, but thanking your agency, and every place you’ve played under the sun except the one you currently play for is strange. There’s a contrast between Rudy’s speech and Donovan’s. There’s no denying it. I can’t say it’s great you forget the organization, teammates, and coach who essentially gave you the opportunity in year one to open this door up.

....nothing means everything...but everything means something.

lol you read something into nearly everything. How do you get to sleep at night, how many times do you check under the bed ?

That’s my opinion. I love Donovan. But no.

It's amazing how a perceived diss destroys people's connection with reality. I can only imagine what your family puts up with, since such an event with a basketball player, that deserves it and doesn't have to talk about basketball, has you plucking your keyboard at night.

I wouldn’t want to offend anyone-edited

Lol idgaf what his speech is like. We have a guy on our team, winning national media awards and putting a small-market, stereotyped, often ill-perceived team into the spotlight on a weekly basis.

We haven’t had that since, maybe ever. Rejoice

I'll take him getting the crowd to give his mother a round of applause and him giving a good message to young kids over a mention about a NBA organization every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Quit trying to be the psychotic girlfriend who gets upset when he goes 5 minutes without mentioning your name. He has banged the Jazz drum ever since he was drafted. It'll be alright for him to make some appearances and not mention the Jazz.

Oh I agree, the love he has for his mother and sister is admirable, and he’s a great human being no doubt. Donovan’s an amazing role model and dude with a good heart. I also stand by my opinion, this IS the time you mention it, just like every other player.
Is it the time? Probably. Is it a necessity? No. It's his first major awards show, I'm not going to castrate him for it and my guess is neither will the organization or his teammates. The fact that we have a player in these award shows is enough merit for me. But apparently not for people who need to point out every negative thing in every little detail.

We're really going to question his loyalty/appreciation to the team and fanbase?

He got on stage and thanked his sister, gave his mom a round of applause, thanked his high school, thanked his college, thanked his agency, and then told kids that haters gonna hate and they should go for their dreams. He then realized he forgot to thank the Jazz and his teammates and immediately went on Twitter to give them a shout.

Let's give him a break. He's done everything right every step of the way so far.

Who said this?

All Ive read (or mentioned) was it was "strange", "unusual" or little worrisome.

It was an observation, no one has questioned his character or commitment to the Jazz.

Y'all are being super sensitive and overly dramatic.

Yeah I don’t think I ever went that far. I used the word strange and everyone’s hypersensitive at any hint of questioning of DM and then call me sensitive.

the sunnies no doubt I can see a Jingles "pimp" reference coming up ..

btw what a magnificent July day eh

Tell me about it, getting flogged at work too. Got the next three days off tho, the old man is hopefully getting discharged from hospital after being in for a week and with a bit of luck i'll be spending the weekend with a thoroughly immoral woman.

To all those who want to criticize the fact that a couple people just said he may have left something out......in my next speech I think I’ll thank my dad, my sister, my brother, and my aunt....and leave out my mom during the same sentence when she birthed and raised me. If you’re gonna thank your youth school, private school, and college, the place you’re currently with shouldn’t just slip your mind in that same sentence.

....now queue the hate because it’s Donovan.
So say what you want to say, then. What's it mean? Why did he not mention Utah?

If this is a thing that matters to you explain what significance it has.

I mean I see your reaction as just some more Utah inferiority complex patheticness, but if you got something bigger than that, since you want to keep talking about it, tell us what it is.

In his red carpet interview, he was his usual poised self, talking about Allen and Ingles, how he hopes to avoid the sophomore slump, and the fun he had with the ROY stuff. But he was also obviously a bit starstruck watching all the athletes around him.

His speech was interesting. It was the least polished thing I've seen from him. The moment was big. I don't fault him a bit for not mentioning everything he likely wanted. I actually didn't even notice the Jazz oversight until I read this thread. I just thought it was amusing that he was acting more like the youngster he is than usual.

And I adored his suit.

he was probably conscious about what people would think about him wearing shades and that suit up in the stage
