The Season of AB

Good thread. He's looked pretty good so far. I'm liking his return to aggression but in a way that's less risky. Still seems to become too much of a placeholder on offense for stretches tho.
 
A healthy Alec Burks playing within the offense and defense is a very nice player to have off the bench. That’s always been the knock on Burks, his stupid Houdini plays where he was always on the ground. His inability to properly use offensive sets, ie. not using screens. And ball watching on defense. It’s taken years, but he seems to finally be getting it.

I’m still not a big fan of his shot, not enough arc, but he’s seems to be knocking down a good percentage any time his man goes under the screen.

Knock on wood, he can keep up this play. 3 years ago I would have said it was impossible.

Wow... Based on the pre-season?

I have liked him over the years.. But not sure I am any higher based of the pre-season. I mean I like his ft rate and all
 
AB is one of those players when he's on he's one of your favorite player to watch when he's not you are just shaking your head. His preseason play is encouraging. Quin talks about playing well(not just offensively) even when you may not be getting the most minutes, the jazz at the guard position are deep which is a good thing but shows that the minutes may not always be there, so can you still be effective and work well in the jazz offense in limited minutes, so that is the question for AB.
 
If AB is in the rotation and plays on the high-end of what we know he's capable of with increased consistency, I don't know who the Jazz would trade him for that would make the team better. I am a fan, and if he gets to a point where his health allows him to play and he reigns in some of his boneheaded play, he's worth every penny of what he makes.

I think a lot of the improved play is because AB's game has officially evolved: his game starts on the perimeter now, and he's picking his slashing opportunities. It used to be the opposite. Now that his brain is catching up with this evolution, he might take the next step.
 
Love this thread. Cy's best ever, tbh. But it was mentioned earlier- Burks won't play enough for 6th man consideration. Too much competition at the wing with Royce, Dante and Grayson.

Not sure what you're getting at here. Always been a great teammate, locker room guy and solid work ethic.

So when you say you suspect something happened between him and Quinn, not sure if it is on the negative side or the positive side, but either way, i suspect you're wrong.

If positive, nothing has changed- for the qualities i mentioned above that he's always had. If negative, you're simply wrong. There is a reason- and I've been saying it for years on here- despite his struggles he stays around. The coaches love him- just keeps his mouth shut, gets along with and encourages teammates, accepts his role whatever it may be, etc.

Likely a 4 who can stretch the floor. Jazz are overloaded at wing, but have a glaring weakness at PF. Maybe Niang fills the role. If that's the case and Georges evolves like Ingles did, I'd be excited. But I don't think you can count on it. The problem keeping AB is that he's gone after the season. Jazz can't give everyone $10m+ contracts.

Good observation. He no longer looks to drive every time he gets the ball and put up an off-balance shot.

Ingles mentioned AB as the most inspirational player during media day. Said AB always had a great attitude, even through the injuries and rehab. I think AB has just been a victim of numbers. But s NAOS said, it seems like his game has evolved. Quin has a difficult situation to manage as far as wings.
 
At the risk of regretting what I say later, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that no move may have been the right move this summer. Maybe we will look back and say "you know what, Alec was like our biggest free agent signing"

and Grayson allen over hayward for bench player of the year?
 
I've been rewatching Georges Niang from summer league and pre-season. He could be a factor for us by end of season. He's got some of the same appeal as Joe Ingles and can play at the 4. He just needs more time with main rotation players.

Regarding Burks, I think he's good enough to start for a number of teams. Love the way he rebounds for a guard/wing, and I love the way his mid-range is now more under control. His 3-pt range also goes out to 28 ft now.
