2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

They are still a playoff team this year even though their All Star PG was hurt all year. What is Miami's pick and what is ours this year? About the same right? Whats to say its that much different in 2021?

They're the 8th seed bud. 25-27. They have no assets to improve their team. They can't trade a 1st until 2023. They are going to suck in the new lottery odd system. Its an incredible pick.

People call me a contrarian , but you honestly suggested its arguable Utah's pick in the same year is equal or better.

Utah has two stars, get real.

Unless they get another player similar or better than Harris, I genuinely doubt they "are" applies anymore. West is either is gambling for AD or is cashing it in to #TrustTheProcess. And unless another LBJ/Bosh/DWade thing happens in the next few years for Miami, their pick will be better in the future. Simple as. As it currently stands, Miami's pick is about 5 or 6 slots better right now.
I agree with that.

My point is that if you consider that our 2019 1st is a year closer and probably 10 spots better than the 2020 Philly 1st, the difference between our pick and Miami's 2021 isn't that big of a deal.

Try 20-29 slots better.

Utah is going to be a top 5 team in 2021.

Miami will be bottom 10 in a lottery system where you don't have to be bottom 3 to get good odds.

Utah 2019 1st >> Philly protected 2020 1st

Miami 2021 1st >>> Utah 2019 1st

We could have given sooner 2nds as well.

We didn't get Tobias. Time to move on.

Would y'all trade Rubio, Thabo and 2nds for Gallo and Beverley?

The Clippers could then trade expirings, SGA and all the picks for AD and have space for a max player this summer.

Or just wait for the summer.

In a way I think its more likely now in free agency.

Granted I thought it was like 5% likely in free agency before, now its like 8%. Getting someone to leave Philly is a lot easier than getting them to leave LA.

When I see a deal like this, I tend to think that Philly did their homework and got a word from Harris and his agent about the likelihood of resigning with them (sneaky common practice tampering). I think there is less of a chance now but who knows, maybe Butler stays and Harris doesn't like the team's chemistry, playing style, the city, etc. Lots of variables, all speculation.

Yeah, I mean, I gave it an 8% chance.

Teams don’t like this years draft clips could have asked Philly for 2019 pick from them.

Our package would not have been close... that was a stupid good offer from philly.

I consider Gallo if we got Conley... he has back issues... defense and attitude are a bit worrisome. If we are capped out why not though.

West will get like 4 firsts and AD for him... dudes a magician.

And Utah would be dumb to give all that for Harris.
He's in the East now. That will help.
He was in the East his entire career before this season. Now he's on a super team where he'll be the 4th banana in usage.

I think he'll be very good for them, but does he get the touches and numbers his heart desires? Klay Thompson works in this role because he's one of the GOATS working off ball.

I agree 100%. I think Butler might get traded. If not, he might not get kept. Harris fits Embiid, Simmons and Redick so well.

I don't know if they'll trade him but iirc the Sixers had the capacity to open up a max slot in the offseason even with Butler there, so if you switch Butler with Harris and just let Butler walk you still have plenty of cap to work with.
Wouldn't be shocked if they traded him, but yeah, I'd be surprised if they keep all 4 long term.

Wonder who is going to be the priority. Butler is a lot better than Harris, but Harris fits in a lot more easily than Butler
I've been of the opinion that they should just accept Butler as a sunk cost and let him go in the offseason even prior to this trade, after the trade it just cements it for me. I don't think signing a guy who often gets injured, has made headlines with every franchise he's been with for all the wrong reasons, and is a physical player who is going to be on the wrong side of 30 to the max deal he wants is a good idea if you can put a low maintenance guy like Harris beside Simmons and Embiid there instead. I don't think Butler is significantly better than Harris to justify giving up on the better fit/extra cap space you'd get with Simmons/Harris/Embiid/filler going forward.

It puts the ball back in Simmons' hands more often which is what you want (especially if he gets a jumper, dude will be special), it lets Embiid become the clear go to guy again offensively which is something I think the Sixers should want, and you got a 3rd star in Harris who can just do the things the other two can't and helps make them better. Surround that group with 3&D type players and that's a much more appealing option to me than any version of the team with Butler on it.
