The official: Predict our coming off-season

Anyone else notice DL gave up a first rounder to get rid of Burks, who Altman has now secured a first rounder for trading away? Utah could be sitting on two more first round picks right now. Wasn't that the price for Tobias Harris? So we could have Tobias but settled for Korver instead. Great job DL!

(dumb post, trying to fit in)

Next summer? Jazz and Rubio part ways, they don't pick up Favors' option for 19-20, they use their pick #21 to draft Sekou Doumbouya and stash him in Limoges for one more year.

They try to upgrade the PG position but the main names (Kyrie, Kemba, Bledsoe, Russell...) stay with their teams and they end up signing 37.8% career FG shooter and 3.1 assist man Terry Rozier much to the delight of some Jazzfanz (it was a close call between him and Goran Dragic, but after checking with the fanbase the Scary Terry nickname beat The Dragon). They then turn their sights to the PF market and sign Al-Farouq Aminu to a reasonable 2-year contract. Finally they sign veteran Amir Johnson to serve as Gobert's back-up, with FA Ekpe Udoh moving back to Turkey.

The team still lacks shooters, so they guarantee now 38 years old Kyle Korver's contract and keep him on board for one more season.

The Jazz go into the 2019-20 season with:

Rozier - Exum - Neto
Mitchell - O'Neale - Allen
Ingles - Korver
Aminu - Crowder - Niang
Gobert - Johnson

Exciting.

Sign a washed up good guy. Overpay Rubio, pick up bad Flavors contact option. Draft a bust.

Exactly important to keep the tight group of guys that wants to be there. Not so important to compete for the championship.

Out: Thabo and Udoh
In: Draft pick and Mitrou-Long
Favs comes back, Neto returns.
Rubio gets a 1+1 deal like Favs has at $16M/per.

All trade exceptions expire for Utah. Lindsey kicks some tires, but doesn't use the MLE. Talks about liking our guys and internal development.

Translation: status quo.

We strike out on all of the big max free agents people are dreaming about. Talks turn to whether or not the Jazz can trade for the player they are looking for (Conley, Lillard, etc etc) but nothing comes of it. The Jazz re-sign Derrick Favors and Ricky Rubio long-term. They also make one or two other minor moves (Korver type deals). DL talks about how important team chemistry and internal growth is. We run it back for the same results. The lack of improvement starts to weigh on Rudy and DM and that isn't good.

Let’s start with this. The current cap is 101.9M. It’s supposed to be 109M with an LT of 132M next season and then 118M/143M the year after. Those are fairly steep increases. With that in mind, I:

Draft night: Trade Favors and our 1st for RoCo and filler. I’m not sure the Wolves would do it but I think they very well might. I also think Roco’s skillset, positional flexibility, defensive ability and timeline fits in perfectly with ours. His contract is quite reasonable too.

Waive Korver before 7/7 with the intent of bringing him back on a cheaper deal.

Let Rubio walk and make the biggest possible offer we can to Brogdan.

Re-sign Korver on a cheaper deal.

Can we do all that and if so, how much could we offer Brogdan given the projected 109M cap next season?

Gobert
Ingles
Exum
Crowder
Mitchell
Allen
Neto
Bradley
Niang
O’Neale

That’s 68M for 10 guys. If we waive Korver he’s only guaranteed mid 3M’s. Not sure how a RoCo+filler for Favors, 1st would work out financially. Especially with cap holds. And therefore I have no idea how much we’d have for Brogdan.

Wolves not gonna do it. Covington is the main prize of Butler trade and is on a very good contract. And I'm sure they love his skillset as much as you do. Covington is top 5 impact defender in the entire NBA. Favors isn't even close to that.

Let me play :)

Jazz re-signs both Rubio and Favors to deals similar to Ingles but on shorter years.
Trades Bradley and 2019 pick for someone. Not sure who at this point. Might include Allen.
Keeps Korver.
Keeps Thabo with vet minimum.
Says bye bye to Udoh.

Will finally sign a FA that Jazzfanz love.
Not a star but not a meh.
But will definitely help.
