PoS fan who harassed Westbrook

You don't see how a black man would construe being told to "get on your knees" as possibly being racist?
Only if the black man was looking hard to find something racist about it. It is much more of a sexual comment to anyone that is reasonable.

Possibly, but that doesn't mean the accusations have no merit to them. Indiana has a predominantly white fan base and I haven't heard anything levied against their fan base.
Good point. I haven't heard anything about Indiana either. I wouldn't though even if their fans were having these same accusations as I don't really pay much attention to non jazz related NBA stuff.

Here's my thoughts:

  1. The dude is obviously a racist, based on his social media.
  2. I suppose you could get to "Get on your knees" being a racist comment, given that would put the kneeler in a submissive position. It's a little bit of a stretch to say that it was based on a single interaction, tho.
  3. Westbrook is a jackass making millions of dollars, and is purposfully in the public eye.
  4. While Westbrook is smallish for an NBA player, he's still large for a human being - 6'3". This makes threats from him more credible and serious.
  5. The fan should be banned for the rest of the season, maybe for a full year.
  6. Westbrook should be suspended for at least 1 game, probably 3.

That’s what I thought but I’m kinda naive... it isn’t a stretch to consider a comment like that as racist... I just wanted more of an explanation cuz I’m dumb. Like he’s down on his hands and knees working for a white dude?

IDK if that’s what was said it’s an ugly comment... russ’s Comments were obviously ugly too.

I’m not gonna defend anyone here... they all wrong.

Maybe you can explain it. I think I have seen 3 or 4 people in here say it's racist but none have said why. I think most of us (me anyway) truly don't know why it's racist. To be it refers to fellatio. That's the only thing that I can see it referring to.

The dude wanted attention too... an interview after the game where he is all “ah shucks” was kinda a tell.

Thanks for this explanation. Now I guess I can see how it could be racist but to me submission position is more of a sexual thing than race thing.

Could be, but even if he meant it to be purely sexual and not racial - he should have thought twice before saying it to a black man who could very easily take it to be purely racial. One doesn't have to be "looking hard" at all. To suggest a black man is being "unreasonable" for taking it racially is quite frankly - unreasonable.

Westbrook misheard, then overreacted to the fan then threw out the race card to deflect attention from his overreaction. "If something is racist toward me, then that excuses me from being a D***."

Kneeling is a sign of submission. It is THE sign of submission!

That makes sense... it has all sorts of bad meanings... I hope the players misheard the guy and he said something different... it is bad in any sense.

He kinda hinted at it last year too... so I can see someone saying this is some boy who cried wolf stuff... I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to say get on your knees is racist though. First thought was it was a gay slur but the other stuff makes as much sense.

Being on your knees at the feet of someone who gives that command is not only a form of submission but implies a "master and servant" type of relationship. Bondage and slavery implications. When said to a black man, it's easy to see how they would see it more as racially based than sexual based.
