Jazz ban 2nd fan for calling Westbrook "boy"

I appreciate the respectful discussion. Very few personal attacks and insults in all of this and that is a great start.

Listening to David Locke today it is very apparent that the NBA views Utah as racist white people.
Jazz could start by replacing Locke with someone else. His game calls have grown on me, his self annointed enlightenment and patronizing have not.

Oh, my mistake, I thought you were talking about the institutions of this century.

Wait what? You don’t think the institutions of slavery of the past haven’t taken a toll on minorities today? Do you think those institutions of racism of the previous have ended or have they just evolved to be more subtle?

Have you... heard of the war on drugs? Have you seen the makeup of our prisons? Ever heard of charter schools and student vouchers? Gerrymandering? Cleansing voter rolls? Redlining residential zones? Or do you feel like these policies and the institutions that drive them are truly color blind?

I like Thriller's reading list. I would also add "Between the World and Me" by Ta-Nahisi Coates. I have tried to include a lot more POC authors in my reading, and while I will never understand what it is like to be black or a minority in this country, at least I am trying to be aware.

One of my favorites is Steve Biko. While he was writing about race relations in Apartheid South Africa, what he said, mutatis mutandis, can stand for America in the 2010's.

"The logic behind white domination is to prepare the black man for the subservient role in this country. Not so long ago this used to be freely said in parliament, even about the educational system of the black people. It is still said even today, although in a much more sophisticated language. To a large extent the evil-doers have succeeded in producing at the output end of their machine a kind of black man who is man only in form. This is the extent to which the process of dehumanization has advanced." - Steve Biko

Saying boy to me is demeaning considering I am a 50 plus year old MAN.

I've had black guys call/say to me "hey dog!" Now THAT'S demeaning! But black guys use that expression ALL THE TIME, both to each other and to white guys! Calling a person a "dog" is about as low as you can get! In Bible History, dogs were the most unclean of animals and were never let inside the gates of Jerusalem nor could they be "cuddled" or allowed to lick your face!

Dogs lick their own balls. Does it mention that in the Bible?

Imo there are people misunderstood on all sides. People who go out of their way to be kind feel trapped that they can't achieve that because they will probably accidentally say the wrong thing and never live it down.

On the other hand there is still work to do. Imo the solution would be to get these groups together and integrated more often. I honestly feel the rules are driving people apart. Not for anarchy, but I think more rules are becoming counterproductive.

We have to choose to believe in humanity. ALL humanity. We have to believe that stranger has something to offer, something to teach.

United we conquer, divided we fall. If we step on one to lift ourselves, we will self destruct like all great societies.

If you want to change something, reach out to somebody different than you. Arguing with that person is divisive. As Covey said, you never "win" an argument.

I don’t know what is and isn’t racist anymore. This whole thing has been crazy. I guess just don’t talk to them is the safe thing to do.

If terms like "sir" and "ma'am" confuse you, perhaps you need to educate yourself on polite society.
