Utah Jazz 2018-19 Championship Bus CHOO CHOO

I think we need to keep Favors at this point. He's the backbone of our 2nd unit and insurance for when Rudy gets fouls or gets hurt. In certain matchups he's better than Rudy offensively since he can catch the ball and rim roll from further out on the floor. He's been a large part of why we have a rebounding advantage most nights.

The cap is 109M next year not 103M.

How does the process with Favors work? Can we opt out of him and tell his agent we intend on re-signing him to an extension at like 4/50? If so, once we opt out, can we sign a FA at like 20M per, and then re-sign him by going over the cap?
Thanks for the correction on the cap. If we opt out on Favors, he becomes an UFA. As an UFA we no longer own his rights so he'd have to be signed with cap room or the room exception. So no way to sign him as you want.

We’re at 75.3M if we renounce Rubio (who gives a ****), Udoh (almost never plays), and Sef, and opt out of Favors.

Ideally, we re-sign Favors to like 4/55, starting at 12.25M and going up 1M per. That puts us at about 87.6M and gives us 21+M in cap space.

i think they should also consider opting out of niang to free up a little more salary. i would've said neto at the beginning of the season, but his play has given me big pause on that. and then what to do with KK's salary as well.

And he could still get better.

Agreed pretty much. I’d love if we could opt out of Korver (think he gets 3.44M if it’s before 7/7) and then extend him to like 3/10 (at like 2.9, 3.3, 3.8) which would really be like 3/13.44M if I’m understanding things correctly, or a 2/6 extension. If that makes sense.

Niang’s 1.645M savings and 1.22M on Korver next year would net us 2.865M in cap space if I’m understanding the salaries and CBA correctly. Chances are, I’m not.

This is why I'm starting to get the feeling that the Jazz try to make a trade for the missing piece around draft day instead of waiting for free agency to sign someone. If they traded for say, Mike Conley, on draft day... then they can just fully guarantee Favors, Neto and Korver for next year and the roster is pretty set.

I don't think we have the ability to trade for him on draft day without using someone like Favors.

we can dump Exum for a second rounder if it means getting the stud Free Agent SG or PG we are looking for. Someone would make that trade. I'm pretty convinced that Rubio isn't coming back unless we kill it in the playoffs.

OKC getting stomped at home by the old folks home in Wade/Dragic.

I was really hoping the Spurs would lose tonight as well but it looks like they're gonna hang on and beat the Warriors. This will be 9 wins in a row for the Spurs.

So Korver would sign for less than what he'd make if he said no deal and the Jazz released him? Why wouldn't he just tell tell Utah to pay him $7M or release him, collect his $3.44m PLUS at least the vet minimum with another team? As for Favs, we'll see. But I think with this strong finish he can get $15M from someone. I don't see him decreasing his pay from $17M to $12M.

Favors is not where we upgrade. We just need a PG or 3 to score along side Mitchell. Bring Ingles off the bench, and we are world beaters.

Korver would only make about 1M less next year but be extended for two more years after that...and perhaps be offered some sort of FO role? Or dealership?

We overpaid Favors at 17. Even he knows that. The deal would essentially be that 17, and then an extension of 3/38 (not that it would be paid out as such) which isn’t bad like I said, given the overpay, his injury history, and the loyalty he seems to have shown here.
