It definitely is not the wire, or breaking bad for that matter, but those are pretty much regarded the best shows of all time.
I don't think the writing was awful (although some of the dialogue was a little overwrought), I mean it wasn't nominated for a Emmy for nothing. But yeah, the acting cinematography and direction elevated it to greatness. I wouldn't put ten series above the first season.

Original True Detective was amazing. The effect of some productions do not fade. Very few of them. This one is up there. I don’t see what is wrong with the writing neither.

Rucker 50 is more of a community documentary than basketball.
Carter Effect exceeded my expectations.
Iverson’s was pretty good.
Amateur is a very good movie.
I just had to turn off AAU documentary. Some of these things show anything but basketball even though they claim to be about it.

I just finished season one after reading Wes and Fish praising it and I agree. The actors made it entertaining but otherwise there wasn't much to it.
