I'm Sensing Trading the 1st Round Pick for a Veteran

To be obvious 3 of our starting 5 needs an upgrade. There are talented guys out there that are obtainable. Look at the Jazz alums that were rescued from the garbage can by Portland. Look at Andrew Bogut. Hell even Melo.

I think it is a tough draft, but wasn't 2013 supposed to be bad and it produced some good players in the middle/late part of the draft. Giannis and Rudy... I think it is a tough draft to evaluate after those two, but I don't think it is any worse at the end of the 1st round than a normal draft.
Yeah I think it'll be a similar draft to 13, top prospects outside of Zion and Ja suck but there'll be some gems floating in the mid - late draft that are being overlooked currently. God knows which players they are though

In reality, Jabari could really excel here. By all accounts he’s a likable teammate. He gets in a system where he’s immediately the number 2 option. Lots of positive vibes in the locker room, new perspective after being on a number of teams, and Quin getting more out of him offensively and defensively, he’s a legit MIP candidate.

Go get Conley and Jabari.

The Wiz will retain Parker.

Kyle giving word on retirement early would help us if we traded for Conley... if we traded for Conley and waived and stretched Korver then I think we are looking at $15-17M which may be enough to land Niko or something in that tier.

Except Conley is the player DL may have been referring to as overpaid and a player to "win the press conference". At 31, he is set to have a Kyle Lowry type scoring dropoff.

Lowry at 31 (Conleys current age): 22.4 ppg
32: 16.2 ppg
33: 14.2 ppg

Anyone want to pay Conley 34 million for 14 ppg?

I don't think he was referring to Conley. He said they've had the opportunity to say yes to some big names and declined. From everything we've heard DL was very aggressive in trying to acquire Conley.

This is quite honestly one of the worst drafts I can ever remember. I know you really can't properly grade a draft until three years or so after, but Zion and Ja are the only two I see who could even have a shot at being an All-Star.

I think it's okay, not great, not terrible. RJ Barrett has All Star potential. I think Coby White has some All Star potential as well. I think this draft is about as strong as 2015, maybe a little better. There are some sleepers in this draft like Doumbouya, Bitadze and Kabengele.

My preference is for the Jazz keeping the pick. Purely selfish though, i get free entertainment out of the predraft hope, the excitement of draft day and the cold realities that set in as summer league and fall camp unfold.

It sure makes this place more exciting for 3 months.

How would we even go about trading for Conley now? All those expiring contracts we could have used to match salaries (Rubio, Udoh, Thabo) are now gone.
Aren't the Jazz like 25M under the cap now? So they don't have to match salaries.

I think that it will be in the trade package for Conley. And if the Jazz FO thinks this is a weak draft class, they would be correct.

If there is someone we really like this is a year I think we could jump into the back end of the lotto. I like the Garland kid, but he played like 4 games and I'm not even sure he will be there at 11-14ish... but if there is someone with awesome hand pads and balance this is a year that the price to move up may be doable.

The Jazz have to take a chance in order to move the needle. Conley only has two years left on his deal and his contract doesn't effect our ability to keep our core long-term. It would be a low risk move if a better option isn't available. So yes I would be okay paying him 34 mill

I'm honestly not even sure we'd be able to get Conley. Is Favors, Exum and a first round pick really enough to get it done? I kind of doubt it.

I get the feeling from what I've seen that Conley trade can't be done prior to the draft. I thought we could just guarantee Favs and then use his salary, but I'm not sure that is how it works.

If it did they could route Favs to Charlotte for Biyombo and stuff... Maybe Monk, maybe a better pick (if we sent 23 to charlotte then we route 12 to Memphis).

If it happens here is how I think it will... We go to free agency and don't get Harris... we waive Favors... we move Exum, Korver, Bradley and our 2020 pick (better draft?) for Conley... we make up the delta between the salaries with a good chunk of our space. They save about $17M and can get closer to the salary cap floor, which I assume they will operate near next year. Would leave us with about $16M left to do our other business, as well as the room exception. Likely enough to get one or a couple of guys in the Rudy Gay, Niko, Danny Green, Trevor Ariza, Aminu, Ellington, Jamichael Green... don't think it'd be enough to get Bogdonovic… but you could waive Neto and get to 17M in space... maybe nab him on a 4/75M type deal, but it'd be kind of a funky fit at that point.
