Rubio not staying?

Trading or letting Rubio go would be a BIG mistake for the Jazz! Despite some of his minor deficiencies, he's a Jazz guard from the getgo with a solid understanding of what works for the Jazz offense, and has more solid games than bad ones! He's very coachable and has improved his game with the Jazz every year!

Understanding of what works and doing what works are 2 different things. He has not improved his game with the Jazz every year and even if he had (which he has not) it would be irrelevant without playoff win progress. Year 1 he averaged 13.1 PPG, 1.6 SPG, 4.6 RPG, with a 42% FG%
Year 2 he averaged 12.7 PPG, 1.3 SPG, 3.6 RPG, and shot 40%
What works is being able to hit open 3's in the course of a game. What works, is a player that can stop the defense. Nothing about him works. It might work in China, but not in the NBA. I thought it was pretty clear throughout the year. Perhaps you didn't watch the Jazz play?

Although not a superstar by any means, Rubio was more of an asset than just about anybody else on our team during the Rocket series! EVERYBODY on our team was missing 3 point shots but Rubio contributed in other ways to keep those two games close! Our big guys missed easy shots, Mitchell played poorly, due to his own decision making, other than one guy on the bench, they all played poorly. Our defensive schemes left a lot to be desired. You can't blame any of that on Rubio, who pound for square inch of flesh, was probably the most valuable commodity we had!

Rubio was the player the rockets decided to iso against Harden most plays. His defense is decent but not great. He had a couple of good games against the rockets but the rockets sat deep in the paint and dared us to shoot threes. They wouldnt do that if we had lillard or conley or Lowry at the point. But Rubio or Westbrook or other 31% shooters? Sure.

Our identity is a team that wants to spread the floor to allow Gobert and donovan mitchell the room to work the paint. We hence NEED defensive oriented and 40% 3 point shooters to be successful. Otherwise, teams will always double up on the paint and therefore will cut off both donovan's drive and Gobert's lobs.

George Hill was a good choice and he thrived here. People talked about him as a potential all star that year. He was a defense oriented, stretch point.

Rubio, as much as I like him, is not the type of player we need. Hayward screwed us because we were going to sign Lowry that year. So ima gonna take a dump on Haywrads Moms chest.

Haywood is a ****, are we all in agreement?

Rubio should sign with Dallas. I can't think of a better fit. His shooting isn't as big of a freak on that team, and they could use the veteran presence. Not sure how high they are on Brunson, but that can't be that invested in him and Burke adds their PGs.

I would really love to see the Jazz make a move to acquire a great Point Guard. I think Jrue Holliday fits our system the best, but also, who wouldn't love Lillard? Lillard would no doubt thrive with any team and would be welcomed back to Utah with open arms. I like Conley's game, but that contract is way to steep for what you get back. His contract added to our salary would tie our hands on talent for many years. As far as Lowry goes, we can live without him. He is the most overrated point guard in the NBA. He chokes every time the pressure is on. Especially in the Playoffs. He scored 7 points Thursday in 38 minutes and only dished out 5 assists on 20% shooting. Toronto has stuck behind him for so long and he has never been able to deliver. He has done nothing but let his team down come playoff time, year after year after year. I'd rather have Injured Exum in a wheelchair, blindfolded with both arms amputated as our starting PG than a healthy Kyle Lowry jacked up on Jesus Juice, adrenaline and performance enhancing drugs.

Your absolutely right about our team not playing well against the Rockets. I think we lacked the pieces and the talent to compete with them. I really blame it on DL for not making any moves in the offseason or the regular season that improved our team. He sat back and watched everyone of our competitors do something to improve. He made very few things happen and when he did do something, they were head scratchers. Rubio played well for Rubio standards, but not for the standards of a starting NBA point guard. I think Royce O'Neale was probably the most consistent player for us in the Rockets series. It will be interesting to see what happens in the off-season with our roster.

No.

I guess I’m having a hard time seeing a path for how we get an upgrade from Rubio at the PG spot. We don’t have the assets to trade for Conley and Kemba isn’t coming.

Much better chance at getting a shooter in FA at the 4. Harris, Miro, etc. all seem realistic.

I think we get equal results with a guy like Shelvin Mack.

I could see Bulls being a home for Rubio. Seems like they want to get into playoff hunt with addition of Otto Porter. Rubio would be an upgrade from Kris Dunn.

I agree. Chicago and Phoenix look like good fits for Rubio. I don't think he gets much more than a full MLE if that.
