What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

I think Philly is pretty clearly going to offer the five year max. I think the question is whether Tobias wants to be a 4th option.

With as close as they lost and how emotional it was after, I think Philly and the team will feel as though they need to bring everybody back for another run. Sure Butler and/or Harris might decide to leave, but I just feel like this postseason will bind them stronger together.

But it’s interesting that they added two max level players and didn’t get any further in the playoffs than last year.
I’d like to say it’s due to their lack of depth as they only played three off the bench, but looking at the Raptors, they only played two off the bench oddly enough as they are pretty deep as a team.

True, but with the way they lost, I think they will use that old cliche that they didn't have an off-season all together.

It will be hard for them to keep Harris, Butler, and Redick financially, but if they can, they are a favorite going forward. GS should disassemble, Kawhi might leave, Boston will implode, Houston is aging, and the Bucks might lose depth too.

Starting to wonder if you’re Kinkkkkk... Here’s what I know.

He went to Thailand. They have a ton of “surgeries.” He’s been MIA. You appear a few months after he disappeared. Those who have sexual reassignment surgery sadly oftentimes struggle being mentally stable. You struggle with being mentally stable.

Just sayin’. It all adds up.

Making fun of me by throwing Trans people under the bus. Classy. You must be mormon.

Tobias has to choose between 5 year max or a 3+1 max deal with a team where his role isn’t marginalized.

Philly has to make sure Tobias on a 5 year max is a trade asset. If he signs that he has to know they will eventually move him or Butler. He may be okay with that but he’d lose some control.

Also I hope they fire Brett brown and the uncertainty about the new guy makes Harris pause... it will be an interesting free agency for that team.

I think this is an underrated part of this. He has never chosen where he wants to be in his career to this point, correct?

I’d hope he and his agent have to know your point, and that’s that there is a very strong chance either he or Butler aren’t with the Sixers beyond a season or 2 if both sign max’s.

It’s wishful thinking on my part, but control your destiny my G.

It might be better to shed money and upgrade the supporting cast with shooting, athleticism, and defense on the perimeter. I think Beverley would look great in a jazz uniform, he’d fit great in that he can concentrate on defense and hitting threes while Mitchell and Ingles run the offense. I think they could also add a couple low cost scorers, and maybe the jazz get lucky and Allen comes around, I definitely think he could be a nice scorer off the bench.

In this scenario who else would be ideal free agent signings to fill shooting and defense?

I also think there is a little bit of evaluation on him from their side too. They could re-sign Jimmy and still get like $26M in space... part of which would be ear-marked for JJ, but they could fill in some other needs.

I think if they dick around with making the full 5 year offer it opens the door. If they just offer it I think he'd take it, I probably would, and I'd just accept the fact that I'm likely getting moved at some point... maybe he thinks it would more likely be Ben or Jimmy that gets moved.

I think Simmons gets traded before he's due a massive pay day. If you watched that series, you could see that Simmons' inability to do much of anything in the halfcourt game hurt Butler and Embiid.

Butler and Harris fit perfectly with Embiid. And I don't think Philly will let assets just leave if all it takes is just pay them. They will do everything in their power to keep Butler and Harris.

How about that Rivers kid who was nailing 3 pointers left and right during the playoffs this year? Seems to be a good choice to add to our roster for 3 point shooting and such! Would probably come fairly cheap, as well!

I have my issues with Ben but I’d think long and hard before choosing Embiid over him... just long term that guy needs to get serious about his body or he will be done in a few years.

Short term trading Ben for a haul might be wise... long term... nah.

I just think the way they currently use Harris that putting a max cap figure on it would make it counterproductive. He’s spotting up a lot and is pretty bad on defense... if that’s his primary purpose then keep Mike Scott around.

With an offseason they may use him better... I just wonder if the cap space or him on a five year max is a better asset. If he is in the mid teens scoring and they move him next trade deadline what are they getting? It might be a decent return... I don’t know.

Tobias is still young, and he'll get another contract. A 3+1 max as a second option might be worth it to him. He could be an UFA again at 30 (his birthday is in mid-July) and could get a 5 year max at that point. A 5 year max right now puts him back into free agency at 32 and probably minimizes his next contract if he's still their 4th option. That's got to be a huge consideration for him.
