What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

I'd love to have Harris... but he's second on my list. Kemba is the best fit because we have Crowder who can be a high-level starter at PF. If we sign Harris.... the point guard situation doesn't have a clear answer.
I disagree with this pretty strongly. I don't think Crowder can be a high-level starter at PF. He's a high volume inefficient shooter and isn't a great rebounder.

An analysis of kinda worst-case scenarios:

Mitchell at PG > Crowder as your primary 4

I say we get Kemba or Harris and just go from there...

I think we could address pg by doing DM/Ingles in the backcourt... I think we could address PF with a combo or Royce and Jae... my preference has been to try Royce there but they hardly ever do it... if we had better options at backup sg/sf then maybe it'd happen more.

It's when we miss on those guys things get hairy. There are other options... but none that are nearly as good as those two.

How does Zanik feel about Kevin Love? Or could this be like Trey Burke and him being "Ty's guy"?

I would be more worried about a potential Jabari acquisition... he was there during his tenure.
I don't think so. Jabari and Niko are two guys who could have helped us quite a bit that they've balked at when we could have obtained them. I don't think we show any interest in either of them.

That experience would make it LESS likely to get Jabari, no?

Maybe so... good point. I guess if we get him we will know that Zanik is confident at least.

Was Zanik in their front office when they paid a billion dollars to Delly? I guess this summer could go worse than doing the run it back thing.

For Jabari... it is about when you get him and if he gets "it". Last summer he clearly still didn't get it. He might be ready to accept a role on a winner and maybe more willing to try and play some defense. Raw talent and ability are there... not sure if the right mentality to win is. On a team friendly flier I'd do it... we weren't spending $20M on him though.

I don't know. He's a buy low guy. I think we're caught up in now wanting someone for the same reasons of why their stock is low. I think he's a really good "risk" to take, but don't see it happening.

Everyone will be very tough to get. Philly traded assets for Harris knowing good and well a max is likely coming for him in a few months. That said, he's not worth 30m a year so not like some epic loss if they pay him.
Walker is clearly the most gettable, as Charlotte is not a team in win now mode and Walker is 29 years old. Mirotic is also gettable, where Brogdon and Middleton are unlikely.

I think him and IT are guys I'd buy low on now. We need an offensive punch... if they didn't buy in it is easy to cut them on a minimum type deal.

Kind of like Portland did with Hood and Kanter. at the minimum once humbled they can be really useful.

I think Harris is more gettable then everyone except Niko.

Charlotte can roll out 5/190 or 5/220 if Kemba makes an all nba team... which he should. They will likely do it too as they don't want to bottom out... have had many opportunities to do so and don't. I also think both LA teams and both NY teams would have interest. I think Tobias is Philly, Brooklyn, Indiana, Utah.

All we need to do is sign Boban using all our cap space, then have Harris sign a one-year deal for the max with Philly, then sign the MLE with us and Boban next year.

Hoods been bad since being humbled. The last time he was good was his last half year in Utah when he was in **** you pay me mode.

You can't be the leader of the DL bashing with this garbage.

The guy I keep coming back to is Bogdanovic. He wouldn't be my top choice but he's definitely a good backup plan if we miss out on some of the other guy's like Kemba and Harris. I think he's more realistic and gettable than a lot of the other guys. He carried most of the offensive load for Indiana when Oladipo went down, he'd be a reliable second option for us.

I'm not a DL basher... certainly not the leader. I was fine with the trade... was using those guys as good buy low examples. I'm critical of some of DL's moves for sure, but I also give him credit where bashers would say it was "luck". Like we don't get to say drafting Bradley was dumb AF if we also say drafting DM was lucky.

Rod has been solid in Portland. He was bad in Cleveland last year, but a bunch of players couldn't figure out how to mesh with Lebron and all the turnover they had.

Hood would be a solid addition... I think Grayson could end up being a similarly effective player... maybe not as good in the pick and roll but maybe more consistent.

Not saying I'd base my whole offseason around getting guys on make good deals, but once you have finished your other shopping it would make sense to find one... Nerlens Noel is a solid example in OKC. Wasn't amazing but had some moments. Provided a change of pace center and good backup minutes... Okafor had some moments in NO.

Hood will get paid... but there will be some second chance guys out there that could become something... IT and Parker are guys I'd look at.

I like him but he has a good situation in Indiana and it sounds like they will pay him. I would think something in the 4/70-80M range is fair... I think they would pay him that... so what would we have to pay to get him to come over? With him I'd be reluctant to do a 4 year deal in that range... going higher than that would give me real pause.

Another guy I've thrown out there is Rudy Gay. If we missed on these other targets he'd be good... more of a band aid option for a couple years. Could he give us 80% of what Tobias does for a year or two? I think if you offered 13M-15M per year for two years plus a starting PF spot he'd leave SA.
