I've never bet on sports, but I see some opportunity . Any advice, starting with which websites to use?

Come on, there's got to be one person here who bets on the NBA. What is a good website to place a bet on, where I can trust that they will not rip me off?

I used to play poker on bodog and used their sports book on occasion. It was always easy getting money in and out.

The key think novice ppl don't seem to understand is a simple idea, that frankly should be taught in all middle-schools, is called bankroll-control. if you dont know what bankroll-control is you are almost certainly miscalculating the size of your bets and in the process taking on undue risk(aka handing the house back it's advantage)...

Insurance companies rely on similar formulas for their calculations.. It's all just risk guys..

but ya know this is something that takes a degree of acuity, and discipline, so it's rare..

Avg Joe's usually gamble on a hunch, or lets be real, a drunken hunch, and their knowledge base is usually extremely limited, so it's just pitiful really... Have you ever sat in a Casino long enough? you will see suckers everywhere, and if you dont, well that means you are one of course...

For starters I'd say to skip pussyfooting around and go straight into learning at least the basics of counting blackjack cards. You might want to read up on some horse racing betting strategies, stanford wong has good stuff. These will provide you with a good base of knowledge moving forward.

you want a strategy and a system, and ya know, how people trade stocks, same thing, no surprises, just sit there and tune her til she purrs... the single-serve suckers out there are easily disposed of while solid fundamentals reign supreme, as they always have.

Look at this dude ******** on Jeopardy! That is the power of a sports gambler and game theory! So many scumbag schmucks, have given us bad names!

I am a Master poker player of the highest ilk and I retired many years ago because it's not my type of thing, beating the house brutally is far more satisfying. I am completely unstoppable, if I had to restart back from 0 i would reload in no time. Never ONCE have i crossed into the red, after all these years, and the reason for that is the first sentence of this post.

Ppl do this dumb ****ing thing where in their mind they go "ok I want to gamble 20bux 50bux 100bux" choose one and then IMMEDIATELY feel the need to gamble that amount..... which is foolish... I'd never do that... What I woudl do is i'd say, ok My bankroll is 50 bux, I am going to wait til I have something i'm extra sure will hit, and then begin. You've gotta look for patterns too you gotta realize the $$$ you gamble you get more than just a win or loss back from ,you get feedback, information, and a lot of people storm off and get angry, but thru understanding why you lost, you will learn, always absorb as much as you can, and then when youre done with that ask yourself what am i missing that i can absorb from -- this is really a key follow up question thats helped me clear plateaus personally..

These games are designed so people like me can figure them out and win them, never lose that big picture.... I'm allowed to win them because I know the rules and how to bob and weave and pick my spots, thru experience, this is why Blackjack is my game of choice, unless the rules are rigged, and a trained eye would spot those pitfalls before ever sitting down, the house allows those profient enough to defeat their house advantage, because they know that the suckers who think they can do it, and arent proficient enough will clear those losses from the real gamblers who can 100x over.... Thats the rub..

your attitude can be no less than "i'm going for a swim with the sharks".. it's that simple, thats what I did and I became one. You better prepare for that type of thing though, cuz ya know I'ma end it like this --- give your $$$$ to a good cause before you spend it frivolously on a bad bet...

also one more thing; **** money, flip everything to units, get it out of ur mind. ppl really do have this anal / gold worship thing going on liek Dr. Freud said.. It's not about money it's about beating the game, which means its about improvement, that mindset will serve you much better than this agonizing thing ppl do to themselves, when you lose you're paying to improve...

“Confidence applied properly is the path of genius. You must always be in a state of confidence. And the way you sustain a state of confidence is by testing yourself. Difficult quagmires that may occur; there’s always a test. You have to seek them out. You constantly have to test yourself to prepare for these quagmires. That’s why I always put myself to the test.” – Mike Tyson

U gotta keep a mindset like young Mike Tyson, he wasn't concerned with anything other than being the champ, and bulldozing the next opponent, was never about the $$$ thats why he blew it all in epic fashion, but again lemme circle this back, thats because he didnt understand bankroll control...

As a gambler, if you've avoided it this long I wouldn't start now.

Gambling in a nut shell.

Whatever you win is never enough to change your life but the losses will control your emotions, in a BAD way.

No website advice.

Unless you have the type of inside information that makes it illegal to bet, you don't know the odds/spread better at any sporting event than any major booker/casino. If you think you do, you will make an error sooner as opposed to later.

Outside of a few occasions at the blackjack table, every bet you can make in a casino against the house is a money-losing bet and every system you can try is a money-losing system. The casino dealers are trained to be aware of people who try to take advantage of the blackjack exceptions, you won't be allowed to do that for very long.

Treat an evening at the casino like a night at a movie theater, except more interactive. Expect to lose money, make sure you don't overspend, and enjoy the spectacle.

Check out Bovada. I used them before when I was out of state working. I live in Las Vegas and make bets live. Bovada is good and trusted. You have to link you account and you get a confirmation call from your bank usually. You have to say that your new account is for something other than betting. I use it all the time when I travel.
