I am opposed to term limits

Just wanted to start a discussion on something I'm interested in that many people seem to support but that I VERY adamantly oppose.

I think term limits are a restriction voters place not on politicians, but themselves. It limits OUR choice. It does little else to solve the problem it is claimed to solve.
 
Term limits give more power to lobbyists, because they will have a greater share of the experience in crafting laws.

Look at it from a purely influential way. Newer officials don't have the experience to deal with high pressure lobbyists.

I'm on the fence about it. Lean towards pro-term limits, but certainly not ready to sign off on law requiring it.

The thing is, as it stands voters can impose a limit on the number of terms of any elected official.
 
I used to be all for term limits but the more I think about it, the bigger problem is lobbyists. Too many special interests derail good, bipartisan policy. Though too many, on both sides, buy into the partisan lobby.
 
Don't get whiplash making an "about face" in the event that Trump comes out in favor of this idea. I'm sure there are Dems who are still nursing injuries from the day that Donald fired Comey and they learned that they were adamantly against something that they had been adamantly for just seconds earlier.

I'm not really into changing the existing term limits for President, but I don't think they are any more valid than any other term limits.

I have my own idea for president. A single 6 year term. So he doesn't have to waste half of his term either paying back the special interest or campaigning and can have a solid 4 years in the role to maybe get something done. No chance at re-election.

I can definitely see the benefits of that.
 
Just one time we should allow this president to serve until he dies.

Dems say he isnt leaving anyways, so let's just avoid any drama.

Dont forget wasting 2 years fighting off bogus conspiracy theories. Leaves the president no time to make the deals he promised.
