What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

If we kept Favors while also adding 2 of Rozier, Winslow and Lamb, I'm quite certain we would fare well against aging Houston and GS without KD.

I completely disagree. First of all, if we kept Favors at around $13 million like you're suggesting I don't think we would have enough money left to add two of them. Secondly, even if we were to add two of them I think we still lose to GS or Houston in 5 games.

I mean you aren't getting two of those guys for under 18-20M, but sure.

I'm not saying we can afford them both, I was refuting his point that we wouldn't be better.

As for finances - if Korver retires, we have about $39 million after we waive and stretch him. Winslow makes $13. If we act under the assumption that Rozier and Lamb average $13, it's possible to have both.

Favors $13
Rozier $13
Lamb $13

That could happen. Maybe. Who knows...

We would regret those contracts and that would be a trash off season, IMO.

That’s doing something for doing something’s sake.

This!! Wouldn't move the needle at all.

PG Rozier
SG Donovan
SF Lamb
PF Ingles
C Gobert
O'Neale
Favors
Crowder
Exum
Grayson

I think that's an upgrade over last year. We become more agile, better suited to shoot the ball and tougher to match up against. We could choose to let Ingles be the catalyst for the 2nd unit while we start O'Neale. We would still only have one truly great offensive player, but that's probably going to be the case no matter what we do this offseason. However, I think Lamb and Rozier provide a lot more consistent scoring than Rubio and Korver.

I like that lineup more than one with simply adding Bogdanovic or Mirotic. Or one that includes Conley but no Favors. That lineup above has room to grow with multiple guys who are capable on both ends of the floor.

But....like, that doesn’t win you a chip or position you to beat the teams we need to beat.

That’s just “it’s better than what we have” (which is debatable).

Spending $26m on top of Favs better be with a specific strategy in mind that’s better than “well this isn’t getting us to the conf finals but maybe we win a game or 2 more!”.

Rozier, Donovan, Lamb, O'Neale, Exum and Grayson have yet to hit their prime. We lock them all up before they get to massive contracts. We aren't going to get a superstar other than Donovan on the roster so we have to have incredible depth and versatility.

If we strike out on the Tobias and Kemba types, we need to get guys with room to grow. It ain't perfect, but we hope that our growth will come when others start to age and fade (GS, Houston, etc.).

Any plan that includes paying Terry more than 10M is gonna be rough for me... he just is not good and his recent comments make me like him even less. If that’s what it comes down to I’m just rolling out DM at pg.

Ingles or O'Neale. Why not? We have the best rim protecting center in the league. Let's sacrifice some size on defense in order to get more flexibility on offense. We still have Favors and Crowder for the right matchups.

Royce can play small ball four... Ingles can’t... he gets worked in the post and doesn’t rebound enough. You can call them whatever you want though... I think DM, Insert SG, Ingles, Royce, Rudy would work.

Would be hella dope to get Brogdon and oubre. Wonder if that’s possible financially though. Or dLo and oubre. Think DLo and Brogdon go for the max 28 or whatever it is though.

What big piece or two good pieces are we going to bring in for $18-20 million that's actually going to move the needle? Jeremy Lamb, Terry Rozier and Justice Winslow aren't going to get us any closer to beating the Rockets or Warriors in the playoffs, which should be our only goal at this point.
If anyone says "move the needle" again I'm going to go crazy.

2100 posts. Did we get it solved yet?
Yes, we’re going to bring back Favors, waive and stretch Korver, then use the MLE on Alex Burks. With what’s left over, try to sign Rondo. We’re also going to sell our second round pick and draft a traditional big man in the first round because we’ve got an edge on advanced analytics.
