What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

It’s seriously disheartening that we are looking at the greatest class of free agents in the history of the league and we’re discussing the pros and cons of players such as Conley, Lamb, Oubre, etc...

How pathetic.

We have two young and exciting cornerstones that any franchise would be lucky to build around, a solid supporting cast of players, an elite coaching staff, and a top notch organization from the top down. And that’s not even talking about the fan base - regardless of what Westbrook says.

And yet we’re sitting here talking about how lucky we would be to get Tobias Harris?? Wow.

Any one of these free agent stars that consider winning seriouly would have to stop and take a good hard look at the Jazz. It’s all here. A winning foundation for years to come.

Now, if the narrative that guys don’t want to play in Utah is still correct, then what are we doing? What’s the point?

Then I agree with the “tanking boys”. If the draft is truly the only possibility to get anyone worth a damn - then let’s do it. We should have done it last year. Let’s do whatever it takes to get that third missing piece that aligns with the Rudy/DM timeline.

We’ve been stuck in average mediocrity for about 20 years now. Seriously, it really is now or never for this franchise. DM and Rudy will bolt the first chance they get. Why wouldn’t they?

All DL has talked about is financial flexibility but I really don’t see it. How does a team like the Clippers lose 2 more games than us this season and yet still has the capability to go out and grab 2 max free agents??

This will go down as either the greatest off season in the team’s history, or the most heartbreaking.

We should also have a conversation about at what point Rudy gets tired of being stuck in the ****ing mud and bounces in two years. That is relevant.

Also it isn't just adding Conley that takes us the next step... it's DM and Rudy both getting better. DM has more room there, but Rudy is a worker and has gotten better every year.

We need those things to happen plus Conley, plus another pickup or draft pick hitting, etc. it takes some luck... hell if Draymond doesn't nut punch Lebron the Cavs end up ringless under Lebron.

Our window is now... improve and make significant progress or we are retooling again in a couple years.

Murray
Aldridge
Simmons
Lowry
G Harris
Gordon
Vucevic
LaVine
Turner
Sabonis
Randle
All of these names would be worse to significantly worse than Conley on the Jazz.

You don’t want Conley because of injuries and contract but would take CP3? Sure.

Julius Randle? Lavine?? LMAO!!

I know you just didn’t want to admit your hyperbole (and still couldn’t even get to 50) but I also know you wouldn’t rather we trade for ****ing Vucevic over Conley.

Also lol at including players already on the Jazz

Please read the entire conversation.

HH said "top 30 player in the NBA". He didn't say top 30 player for the Jazz. Likewise, I didn't say top 50 for the current Jazz. I said there are 50 players in the NBA I would rather have than Mike Conley considering his age, production and contract.

I did list 50 guys I would rather have than Conley. I listed 47 who had comparable stats to Conley AND I would take over Conley this offseason. And I listed at least 4 more I would rather have.

Sad but true. Good post. The last sentence is absolutely spot on.

We are totally ****ed this summer. Totally. Our only hope is DL apologizing to Memphis about not including Exum and getting Conley. I’d put the chances of getting Harris at 5% or less. Even then, it would necessitate waiving Favors and I’m not certain DL has it in him to do that. We wouldn’t even bring in a small risk / big reward guy like Jabari but would be more content with something that approximates running back our impotent offense. Keep expecting Quin to scrub together an average offense from a destitute crew.

Nah... we getting one of the big three... Tobias, Kemba, Conley

If LoPo thinks those guys had better seasons and are better players then I don’t know... Conley was extremely productive and crazy efficient, but yeah he isn’t 25 so eff that... give me Zach Lavine and 35 year old Lamarcus Aldridge over Conley. Those guis move the needle... likely will cause Adam silver to shut down the nba for competitive balance reasons.

I’m doubtful we’re even getting one of the little three... Love, Parker, Beverley. We’re getting the “run it back three” of Favors, Exum, and Burks.

“Last year we had to sacrifice a lot to get Kyle, and you saw how much he helped. Well now we’re pleased to announce that we’ve got both of those guys. Alec will add the the versatility of our scoring punch off the bench and will be a prototypical Dwyane Wade.”
