What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

I would be okay with it if we struck out and if the Conley deal became to spendy. He makes me really nervous, but it could work. The issue is you now have two young inefficient high usage guards... which can work if they both compliment each other and the other really efficient guys don't get annoyed. I think that is part of the issue in Boston... guys watching Kyrie and Tatum take turns and saying WTF?

I prefer the other routes but Russell is better than running it back. The thing I like is he's a good passer... going back to his college days he would throw some noice passes. I think both guys could benefit from taking the ball out of their hands a little. I think both guys can improve their three point shooting and DM can get to the line more. I think Russell will always be a low FTA guy... I can't think of a guy who got better at that. The thing is if we did that deal we'd still have all of our picks... I know, I know, but that is where we have to hit (as well as a few other things happening) big to go from conference finalist contender to legit championship contender.

If we got Russell I would understand what we are trying to do... it would make sense... I could get behind it... but its like the 5th or 6th best realistic outcome.

Great post. I agree 100%.

Russell shouldn't be the main target for the many reasons listed and there are better options out there. However, if he is the best we can get, we should be very happy if we do indeed get him.

We aren't going to make a flawless addition this summer. We just need to hope we improve PG (which Russell does) and hopefully improve elsewhere too.

Looked at on/off and lineup stuff for Brooklyn... it is really wonky and counterintuitive. Good news Russell seems to be even on offense and defense. Thought maybe the Dinwiddie bench units would be what helped them.

Jarrett Allen might be really bad at defense. The on off stuff is crazy. They are much, much better with Davis than they are with Allen. Davis is basically positive with every lineup. I would go get Davis with the room exception right now and have him replace Favs. He has a huge effect on that team. Carroll had a really positive effect as well, but the Davis stuff was pretty eye opening. The team was 9 pts per 100 possession better on defense when Davis was on the floor. I went to find another player to give a reference point but couldn't find anything near that big... PG was a 5.8 pt difference... biggest I could find.

Anyway... fine with Russell, but go get Ed Davis.

Ed Davis averages 17.3 rebounds per 36? That's insane.

I'd also be willing to roll the dice on IT. That injury may have zapped him of everything, but I think we could offer him a role and I think it would be a minimum deal. I think the hip injury is kinda a two year deal... especially since Boston told him to wait on the surgery.

Yep. We struggle to score at times and he could be perfect off the bench. At a cheap cost, why not.

We’re not getting Russell. Zero chance imo. The Nets are building something there.

Cost matters though when it comes to building.

Maybe they want to build with Durant or Kyrie or someone else more than they want to build with Russell.

I like Harris but had to laugh when the author called him an elite 3 point shooter.
He shot 32.6% from 3 for Philly this year.
His career average is 36.4. that's not elite imo.

Now he does have 1 season of 41% and 1 season of 40% so he has the potential to be elite. But he has many more seasons that were not elite.

Jabari... gotta get Jabari. I think buying low on Jabari vs. buying ultra high on Harris will equal out. Jabari's three is a question mark, but he's gotta be guarded. Plus, he has a really good FG%. Get Conley. Is there any way to get Conley, Jabari, Caruso, and Ed Davis?

I think Brooklyn will do something foolish like sign Jimmy Butler or Kyrie to a max deal which will lead Russell right to us.

Why would signing Kyrie or Butler be foolish? They're both much better players than Russell.

I like the idea of buying low on jabari but I would MUCH rather buy high on Harris

It is clear that LoPo prefers younger players... not knocking him but that is his preference.
