What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Why would signing Kyrie or Butler be foolish? They're both much better players than Russell.

I think Kyrie and Butler are both bad for a lockerroom. I also believe that giving those guys max contracts at their age will end up looking like bad value.

Brooklyn is on an upward trajectory building a good roster and culture. I wouldn't screw that up by bringing in Kyrie or Butler. If they have a chance at KD, I would definitely do it. So it's not about age - it's about fit, role, value, and the lockerroom.

I like Harris but had to laugh when the author called him an elite 3 point shooter.
He shot 32.6% from 3 for Philly this year.
His career average is 36.4. that's not elite imo.

Now he does have 1 season of 41% and 1 season of 40% so he has the potential to be elite. But he has many more seasons that were not elite.

He is elite... almost a member of the 50/40/90 club this year. I think taking the ball out of his hand a little more in Philly hurt him. It takes you out of your rhythm when you are used to getting regular shots. Also switching teammates, coaches, systems... It makes sense his performance slid a little.

The thing about Tobias is it isn't just the shooting... he is elite running pick and roll (and we do that a lot), and he can create his own shot in iso or post up.

I have some concerns on him, defense isn't great but not horrific, been traded like 5 times now, and the on/off numbers are a little troubling (but do make some sense based on the teams he was on)... but for what we need it would be hard to find a more perfect fit. Outside of getting KD, Kawhi, or another superstar I think Tobias is about as well as you could do.

We’re not getting Russell. Zero chance imo. The Nets are building something there.

If they get Kyrie or any max free agent they need to move salary or waive Russell's caphold. If they got Kyrie what are they doing with Russell and Dinwiddie? One has to go in that scenario and Spencer is cost controlled, cheaper, and has been fine with coming off the bench.

If he is restricted still I agree.. we will not get him.

Jabari... gotta get Jabari. I think buying low on Jabari vs. buying ultra high on Harris will equal out. Jabari's three is a question mark, but he's gotta be guarded. Plus, he has a really good FG%. Get Conley. Is there any way to get Conley, Jabari, Caruso, and Ed Davis?

If Tobias says yes then that is the best path we have... I think we are buying in a little high, but there is plenty of room for him to grow. I would rather take an efficient offensive player and ramp up usage than take an inefficient guy like Russell and try and make him more efficient.

I like the idea of buying low on jabari but I would MUCH rather buy high on Harris

In a vacuum, perhaps, but I think the idea of buying low on Parker is that it allows you much more flexibility to significantly upgrade things like the PG spot.

I'm with you Parker. F it. Let's go for it. He has a $20 million team option I highly doubt Washington picks up. If he's one of those $13 million type players, I'm all for him should we strike out on the big guys...

The "around $13 million club" for 2nd tier free agent or trade acquisitions:

Parker
Rozier
Lamb
Olynyk
Dinwiddie
Winslow
Leonard
Thad Young
Rudy Gay
Mirotic
Ross
Oubre
Hood
Ariza
Satoransky

Keep Favors + two of the guys above and we are improved over last year.

I think you could find a solution to the other guard spot... if you had Tobias just start DM, Ingles, Royce, Tobias, Rudy... could use Jae in a trade to find some guard depth... or picks because we'd have those intact still.

Or just give the keys to Caruso and win all the championships.

This championship?

I agree.
Outside of my irrational love of brogdan, Harris is the homerun ball this off-season.

And due to the fact that I like DM at point guard I think Harris is an even better fit than brogdon who I also think fits to perfection.

I just worry a little about Harris personality..... Not enough to make me sour on him at all though.

Parker won't get more than MLE for one or two years. He has to prove it now.

These two posts in conjunction. Parker + Conley > Harris + Royce starting.

DM upgrades the pg spot. And neto (kinda kidding but not really)

If we could sign Parker to $10 million a year for three years, I would do it. We would have his Bird Rights after that. If he proves his worth, he could be a bargain and we could keep him when our contracts start to escalate quickly.

This is of course if we miss out on bigger targets.

Harris seems like a great dude. I think he wants a stable locker room and good chemistry... I think he fits on and off the court and would like it in Utah.

Maybe Exum becomes unded and good... maybe you can still do a Conley deal... maybe someone comes up for cheap like Dragic… If not I think we could sign a cheap pg option and be fine with DM/Ingles pg and a stable of backups in Neto, free agent x, and unded Exum.

You forgot part of the equation related to the acquisition price of Conley. Might cost two firsts or a first and Jae or Royce or Grayson... If we throw in Exum I see that as positive, but others probably don't.

Favors, Exum, and 2 firsts. Tomic, should they desire.
