Conley Officially a Jazzman

They are getting the pick in the year after Conley's contract is over and the year that is the double draft(the first year the highschoolers enter the draft). In essence they get the pick when we will be weakest AND the draft will be strongest.
Rudy could also leave by then. So, we could very easily be giving up a lottery pick. This pick is definitely the most valuable asset we gave up in the trade. For those that want to see the Jazz take a risk, this is it!

You think there's a chance Rudy turns down a supermax and leaves and Donovan might not be good in 3 more years? Come on, now you're just looking for reasons to complain.

I'm not complaining. I was pointing out that it's extremely stupid to assume that the 2022 pick is going to be "late 20's".

So much could happen. Conley, Gobert and others will be unrestricted free agents in summer 2021. Anything is possible.

Jazz really like Exum. More than a late 1st or Crowder. They kept him and he was the sticking point before. They also keep Favors which is big. Not only is Favors good but he is also a good contact and player to have at the trade deadline if a good player pops up then.
I agree they really like Exum. I think that is dumb.

Another 20+pt scorer. Something we've all said we needed. Imagine having that against Houston instead of forcing Ingles and Rubio to be that second guy. This takes the pressure off of everybody.
We should have had that against Houston

Due to protections, the pick has to be 8-14 in 2020 and 2021. More than likely, we are a playoff team those years.

So it comes down to 2022 when it is top 6 protected. Does Rudy re-sign here in 2021? Is Donovan still good? Did Conley re-sign in 2021? Is he still good? Did we do anything else to build the roster? Is Favors done?

It is very possible that we aren't that great in 2021-22 due to the lack of youth because we keep trading away our draft picks.

What? Lol this whole post is horrible.

For the record, I'm glad we kept Exum. I haven't given up on him yet. He has more long term value in my mind than Grayson or #23.

If the reported protections on that pick were true, we can kind of control our own destiny by tanking to the bottom to ensure that we get within that top 7 protection category. Something extreme would need to happen though, like Conley gets hurt. Then we will surely be the loser in the trade and everything we do will basically be cutting our losses.
