News, rumors and buzz around the draft and free agency

That’s not easy and why would Memphis agree to a swap instead of just getting a pick in 2021... what are you giving them? It still ends up being a 2024 1st because Memphis won’t just take less for ***** and giggles... there is a reason they negotiated those protections... it’s really specific and I doubt they’d give up something for nothing.

It’d be easier to say we give a first 2 years after that one conveys... which would basically be 2024.
It's in Memphis' best interest to get our 2022 top 6 protected pick rather than 2021's pick which can only be 8-14.

If we could remove that 2021 stipulation, our 2020 pick could be moved as long as we make the playoffs. Exum and a non-lottery pick is worth it for Winslow. I think he would be so good complimenting everybody else with his comprehensive skill set.

Ummm no if they get the #9 pick in 2021 that is likely much better than the late first that would be coming their way in 2022.

If we renegotiated the pick with Memphis it would have to be obviously much better for them or we’d have to give up more value. Memphis also has no incentive to help us get more talent (they want us to suck at some point).

It’d be easier just to say OKC you get our 2024 pick or earliest pick that could convey. If that ain’t enough then damn.

Memphis can't move a pick with such limitations. And Conley is likely here through 2021 so the likelihood of 8-14 is very improbable.

If we loosened the protections on the 2022 pick from top 6 protected to top 4 protected and the 2023 to unprotected, I bet Memphis does it. Utah is old in 2021-22 and 2022-23. Better chance of a top pick then than 2021.

It's not Riley's MO to stock up on 1sts while selling players anyway so I don't understand why he'd sell off Winslow for a worse player currently + a pick. He only moves Winslow if he can upgrade him or he needs to clear cap to sign a better FA.

Riley would use our 1st to get Westbrook. And the Heat have to stay below the apron while they have to take back more salary when getting Westbrook because OKC wants to get below the luxury.

Trading Winslow for Exum saves Miami $3 million and gets picks for Westbrook deal.

I feel like Presti would prefer Winslow over a future Utah 1st though

They might... not sure how big of a rebuild they want to do... if they want to tear it down to studs then Exum+1st instead of Winslow might be preferable. Would get them under the tax... which is something they want to do.

Exactly. Good post.

OKC gets Dragic, Exum, draft considerations from Miami and Utah. They save $10 million on this deal

Miami gets Westbrook

Utah gets Winslow

Miami is hard capped, so they can't really take that much salary back. They honestly need to send out a little more salary than they take back. It makes more sense for a cap space team or a team with a trade exception to step in here. We can give some relief, but likely not enough.

The DeMarre Carroll deal wasn’t dependent on Morris coming there. They worked out a sign and trade between Washington, SA and Brooklyn for that. Even if Morris backs out, they still have their full MLE - just not a lot of options for using it. Could split it up to use on two players. Kinda like having two of the Room exceptions.

anyone who was advocating for Marcus Morris is.................... hopefully ashamed of themselves.

Like I said before when people were pushing the idea of either Morris bro, I've heard some sketch character stuff. Welp, here is more.

I kinda wish we would have signed Mudiay to a two year deal or a one year deal with a second year team option. Just because if he somehow had a breakout year for us this year we'd control his rights. Since we gave him a one year deal he's as good as gone if he breaks out given our cap situation next offseason.

I hate one-year deals

That would have been ideal. It does seem like if he does well he’d want to stay... he likely had some other options... I appreciate that he came here to develop and it’s a good sign that he’d stick around if it’s a good fit.
