An uproar on China's biggest basketball website targets Donovan Mitchell after the Adidas athlete refuses to sign autographs during his China business tour and mocks 'persistent' Chinese fans for waiting in the lobby.

On google translate people are saying some crazy and racist **** on here. Seems like a huge overreaction, but mostly concerned for his safety now if this blows up.
 
Yeah, they are way overreacting. hupu is the biggest basketball forum in China and that thread has over 110 pages in 5 hours, so I think it's pretty recent.

From what I gather he actually had met and signed stuff for those fans already but they just kept staying in the hotel lobby, and then the internet mob got a hold of that video and assumed he's making fun of them instead of just saying "damn, the fans are crazy over here" ...
 
shouldn't go on a tour if you're not gonna sign.

admittedly i don't know all of the circumstances, but hope he learns something from this.

He'd been interacting with fans nonstop for days. Look at his Instagram comments, it's just full of racial slurs and death threats to him and his family. They are overreacting like crazy.

Where does it show that he had already signed their stuff? Is it in that hupu thread? I wonder if he's gonna acknowledge this, it's gotten pretty nuts.

I think I read it on an instagram comment. I don't know... it makes no sense to assume he's disrespecting his fans, when you have his history of being one of the most fans-friendly players in the league.
 
Agreed, google translator is struggling, but one I saw that translated had some pretty terrible things to say if Google translate even came close....said some **** about his mom and some crazy stuff.

There’s a few comments legitimately going at him if Google translate is anywhere close.

Yeah a lot of the thread and insta comments are incredibly racist. A lot of n-words thrown around and death threats.

Yeah **** that ****.....they were saying terrible things about his mom in the comments I saw...again if google translate is anywhere close.....Don must have posted something on IG at some point on his story and deleted it, I saw this twitter comment.....is this really what they’re so upset about....him saying something about them being persistent? Or not signing stuff for them? Either way they’re being waaaaay disrespectful from the few comments I’ve seen on twitter with a google translate, like terrible disrespectful.

That's pretty much it. It's a video and he says something like "Man I'm just trying to sit here and they're out there chillin. Been out there since morning." Then he shows like 5 fans who had been waiting in his hotel lobby for like 8 hours.

He didn’t sign whatever they wanted signed from what I gather....also....I remember this IG story....isn’t it from last year when he went for the NBA 2k thing? Either way....a few of the comments are beyond out of line. **** that.

.....some of the comments though. Dons the best dude ever, I get there’s a bit of a language barrier there but if that’s all he did he doesn’t deserve the trashy BS comments I’ve seen from some of them.
 
...also judging from the IG comments that’s literally it. He posted that story and I guess it got taken the wrong way and maybe he didn’t sign some stuff.....and now the N word along with a comment hoping his mom dies....and telling him never to come back. They gotta relax....he did absolutely nothing.

Chinese fans are the last ones you want to piss off. Remember JJ Redick was in an NBA promo for Chinese New Year, and he said something that sounded like ch*nk and he got the whole 9 yards too.
