Shooting Extends one Career...So Gobert...

This is false to a degree.
Rudy isn't a shooter yet, but there are dozens of examples where players who weren't shooters added one later. Malone was deadly with his mid-range game later in his career and Horford's career (and latest contract) doesn't come about as it has without him developing an outside jimmy.
Adding a shot doesn't takeaway from a player. It never has. Rather, it simply adds to their offensive arsenal and gives the defense more to worry about. Rudy adding something reliable out to 15 or better makes him so much more deadly in offensive sets where he can roll outside, sit at the top of the key, or take a shot when he's out of his normal position and the play breaks down.
Aside from that, Rudy has the unique physical attributes to remain in the league as his game relies as much on timing, anticipation, intelligence, and instincts as his athleticism. Granted, he will age, but his decline probably won't be as bad as others I think. Mutombo played until he was 42 and still had massive defensive value until he was 35.

Agree with MOST everything you said... EXCEPT - it won't happen. Let's assume that Rudy improves his "15 foot or better" shot by 300%. Even then:
1. Do you think that Quin will design a play where Rudy rolls out to 15'+ to take a shot? (vs passing it to Conley, DON, Ingles, Bojan, Royce, Niang, Green - hell, anyone other than Davis - who won't be on the floor at the same time)
2. Do you think the other team would guard Rudy in that situation?
NO

We should post-up Conley too, while we’re at it.
Gobert lobs to Conley. Gobert is so tall he can feel more confident throwing the lob over defenders. Advantage basketball.

Because mid-range shots are the worst shot in basketball.
Somehow Kahwi made a living in playoffs with that shot. Same as Malone for years. Now lets re watch last two Houston series and see why Rudy was so ineffective and we did better with Favors on the floor then him? Maybe , just maybe because Houston just did not need to defend him anywhere 10FT or more from the basket?

Is Conley Kawhi? I didn’t read the rest of your dumb post.

There are 200 shots on average for a given team for a full NBA game. Not all of them will be perfect or ideal shots. Yes, a player/team needs to hunt for the best shots, but great players can optimize every kind of shot that they will get including the bad ones.

Having Rudy take one mid range once every three games is not a bad strategy. It could actually help him improve which in turn will help improve the team longterm. In addition, although he may be the exception, having the skill to once in a while to shoot would help most players to proctect their bodies and help extend their careers.

Once every three games. Completely irrelevant

The thread is not about value to the team. The thread is about evolving a players game to minimize wear and tear and extend their effective playing years. Malone did that by changing his game and developing different skills.

Another misconception spreading like wild-fire. Gobert shooting midrange means absolutely nothing in terms of health. Who thinks of this? Tristan Thompson was once nic named the "iron man" because he (recently) held an active record for games played without injury. Plus there are hundreds of players who played inside that stayed healthy throughout their careers, some of which are examples for the displaying the best longevity of any players in history.
KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR would be the first that comes to mind.
Robert Parish
Dennis Rodman (and he was drunk and drugged half the time)
Bill Laimbeer.
Kevin Garnett up to his 2009 injury.
There's hundreds.

Plus, why in the hell would anyone be concerned about Gobert shooting outside when you have, Mitchell, Ingles, Conley, Bogdanovich, surrounding him? You want him taking a shot over those guys on the floor? Very productive.

How does developing a mid range shooting ability keep you from getting injured????? This is insane. We have 60 years of history and stats with inside centers that had little to NO mid range game, play and maintain healthy careers. A few of which, set the bar. We also have people that see a debate in this subject. Robert Parish and Kareem. *Drop the Mic*. Good luck naysayers.

While all you wanabe coaches and experts are talking rubbish Rudy is working on his 3 pt shot. Eat that " he does not need jumper" crowd.

It appears that Rudy's shooting ability is a touchy subject. I change my mind I want him to be limited so it is easier to defend him and the opponents bang, hit and punish him down low.

Him developing a 5 ft hook shot is a valuable piece. Unlike an 18 ft jumper

Guranteed shaq shot 3’s in empty gyms. So did ostertag. Ben wallace. Dikembe. Tyson chandler. I guarantee all of them have shot 3 pointers in empty gyms.

well, I did not lose any bets here involving numbers. Now remind us how you ended up with that nick:)?

Oh I’m great at maths. I just enjoy running my big mouth

I still say I was incredibly unlucky and the victim of the longest of odds

We already watched Favors brick 3s the last few seasons. Don't force feed plays onto players who can't perform it.
