Saw this Twitter exchange and couldn’t find a good place to post it, so I figured I’d make a new thread in light of some recent stupidity regarding Gobert discussion. This thread for all things Gobert.

People think that basketball is an individual sport to be judged like figure skating need to straight shut the **** up.

Forget the style, forget the noise, what is the reality? The reality is that for whatever imperfections or things Gobert lacks, he overwhelmingly makes up for with a winning basketball accumen and skill set.

Furthermore, the ways in which Gobert is so supposedly deficient as a player to people - basically that he doesn’t work in the post - need to catch up on the very basic, known reality that posting up in the overwhelming amount of cases is junk basketball and that the league has moved away from it for a reason. A player that would demand the ball in the low-post on this team would actively harm how this team would flourish. That Gobert is the elite PnR big - unstoppable if not chipped by help D due to his peerless reach - but otherwise just cleans up or is a dropoff option means that the offense gets distributed and is harder to stop. Embiid is the “better” player, I guess, but I’d rather have Gobert on this team because he is a more winning player.

By all metrics he’s one of the best players in the league. His consistency is incredible. Turns in good to amazing performances every single night, a hallmark of all the best players.

People see what they expect to see. Nothing he can do about it except proving it on the biggest stage and forcing them to acknowledge. Which may sound more than fair, but the league is packed full of dudes who haven’t done that who get nothing but love.

Rudy nailed it, It's definitely the second answer. People are just stupid. I've visited r/nba enough recently to gauge the feeling of the average NBA fan and realize that. Supposed hardcore NBA fans there legitimately believe that Rudy Gobert is not a star and has no offensive game at all. It's pitiful how little these supposed hardcore fans know. If you don't realize Gobert is a star then there is no hope for you to ever have a knowledgeable basketball opinion in my eyes. You're hopeless.
